Why didnt you just unplug the holder and turn it around, or is it one of the T shaped ones

Hi Rob, will do the letter for you mate.
Standard procedure for dvla, they do not trust people to tell them the truth, this only happens with diesel to petrol engine changes, you need a letter from the garage that did the conversion, (me)

I registered just over a year back now, but I did it with the Essex DVLALO I was told it would be quicker, plus they didnt send a log book, just a letter. Still took a few weeks

Well today, afetr a well deserved lie in til 10am, i got about 20 layers of clothes on and set to replacing my starter motor, as the 30 year old one was fooked.
Bearing in mind i thought id flattened both batteries, she turned over faster than ever before, nice noise not some grating dry sound then started with a cloud of diesel-contaminated-petrol somke!
HAPPY DAYS SHE LIVETH!

Next task was to fit my new steering wheel. I went up the road and back to ensure wheels were straight as can be then popped original Ford wheel off with a 22mm socket(use small screwdriver to remove centre cap).

Eye-ing the new wheel up as straight as poss i pushed the wheel onto the First tapered bit of the spline. A few twists slightly each way to be sure then pushed gently but firmly a few times then removed wheel. I could clearly see the two now mullered splines so i wiped off the bits from the hub and spline.re fitted then I drifted the hub downthe rest of the way with the 22mm socket on the extension bar. Removed again, cleaned up metal, checked fits tight onto spline then tightened nut back up!

I did of course have to removed the Quick release steering assembly from the (MK1 Escort) hub to bolt on to the steering column.

Check this out, I am well happy. will take a bit of getting used to extra effort to turn wheels and smaller size slightly in way of clocks but i can still see all the same!

Well today has certainly been productive. new starter, steering wheel and i finally fitted the Weber 32/36 today too. Nearly didnt but i said to myself if the bolts are easy to undo ill do it- the engine bay was toasty warm too so i cracked on only took bout hour with a lot of faffing around! was helpful that i actually had all the bits i needed, bar 2 jubilee clips which dont matter as only fuel return will fit tommorrow.
Cam belt change tomo too so we will see if the timing issue is belt related or just shyte motorcraft distributors!!!! :D
