Great job mate, If i were you with your abilities to revive dead transits ,i would start collecting up some transits, and start doing them up and sell them for a price. There are lots of people out there who are afraid to tacle a project but are ready to buy one ready to take to shows.
TRANSITS KEEP YOU GOING!!!, GOING!!! AND GOING!!!!!!
well been at it again 13 liters of waxoil squirted in/on
got absolutely caked in it still worth it
started a bit of light fitting up, got Steve AKA Greyvanman round with a nice new screen and a nice new rubber thanks to Kevin AKA Baconsdozen
today ive been fitting the pas box, haxe to very lightly mod the bulkhead and then fabricate a new colom out of a mk1 and a mk5, cut and welded, made a pair of plates one to weld to the colom and one to hold the bolts,
im well pleased with how it came out
the colom and steering box are fitted but i will remove them again for painting, i made it fit the bulkhead with the sandwich style plates as it allows me to remove the colom without disturbing the pedal box
couple of questions was it much trouble to get the mk1 indicator on the mk3 column and the indicator canceller bit etc
also why is the column u/j bent/angled i thought it would be strait all the way up as it was with the mk1 box/column is the pas box input shaft in a different position
i definatly think the bulkhead mounting is the way to go - i'll do my fire van the that way and i think i'll also convert the cossy van as on that i welded 2 clamps on the column, which was ok but still had the crappy rubber seal on the bulkhead which has perished sandwich plates are the way to go
Top work as usual geoff. Like the glossy colour too. As luke said, about the steering box why did it came like that? And from what is that steering box taken off ? Is it a mk5 tranny? was it a straight fit , by bolting up the three bolts on the old mounting?

the mk3 pas mount is flush with the inner wing, the mk1 sticks out, you have to use the mk3 mount as its larger with a 5 bolt fixing, the u/js on the colom and the rubber flexy mount on the box cope with the offset fine, i did angle the colom to the right about 15mm as well it has to be like that as the droparm would hit the chassie if you had the box inline with the colom and as for mounting the mk1 switch and cowl, i cut the mk5 colom top right off and used the top 30mm of the mk1 colom it uses the mk1 top colom bearing as well theres no play in the shaft and the colom turns the box as smooth as silk the steering box is from a mk3 transit with front beamaxle/leaf springs 1986-1991
