EEEEEEW! If the welding produces UV light maybe sun block might help.

Well, the radiation is enough to penetrate skin to organs beneath the skin. Sun block is an oil or sorts. Oil can burn. I wouldn't risk it.

Update:

The constant battle against the rust continues. I'm sad to say that I've found more, a lot more..

The front end of the frame will be changed to the one saved from the yellow diesel bus that I dismantled earlier.



Here I have cut off most of the frame part, however the spring mounts wore in really bad condition. Both sides needs to be replaced. After som work with a hammer it looks like this.
New ones would have been nice, are they available as spare parts ??









Here I've cut off the outer reinforcement, and inside it's mostly rust and holes











Will continue to weld tomorrow, maybe I will remember to bring the camera to the workshop. New pictures will be posted as soon as possible.

If you can get them over there, Mk3 spring mounts can be modified to fit the Mk2.

Mark 3 springmounts would work, not so different

I think it will be hard to get a hold of the spring mounts here in Sweden, perhaps the Ford dealer can help me..

If not I will make new ones myself

Update:

New spring hangers seems to be very hard to find here in sweden so I will continue to make new ones instead.

I've made a two new pieces that I welded on yesterday. Today I have tried to restore the remains of the outer reinforcements.



Here are the new pieces welded on



And with some paint on..



The outer pieces looks like a tragedy, not very much to work with.




A few hours later.. I had to split them in half to be able to make them, hopefully they will fit when I weld them back on the frame

Stay tuned ! Updates will be more frequent now, I have reduced all my projects to only the Transit so it will be easier to find the time.

The power steering project has been started to and I hope to solve some problems that I've seen so far. It is not bolt-on as I thought ..

Know what you mean, when i started I didn't think I would need to replace all of the spring hangers but as the work progressed it was very clear that all of it had to be fixed.

Of course I would have bought new spring hangers if it would have been possible, the left side hanger has taken about 10 h to fix so far and probably 5 more hours until it's finished.

As time is money, new hangers for like 100£ each would have been a good deal

if you dont mind me saying fredrik i would run the mig up and down on more power to give a full penetration weld of your new chassis leg to spring hanger ,first class work by the way

Thanks for all your support ,the second spring hanger is coming together to now and the front bumper part of the frame is now welded on.
New pictures will be posted soon.

It feels so good to finally see the end of the welding, it'a approx. 10-15h of welding left on the cabin.

Back for a update
It's been more than two months since I've updated but the work has been going on..
This might be the last update before christmas but the work will continue during the hollidays, I'm free from work for more than two weeks now

Since last update I've dismanteled a Transit -89. A lot of good stuff on that one . I will use the whole front axel from that one, the brake calipers and discs were nearly new and in very good condition.
I've painted it today and I will mount it on the cabin soon.

The spring hangers for the front suspension are now ready and the "bumper piece" of the frame is reattached
I have also solved the problem with the power steering i think (pictures soon).

These pictures are about 2weeks old, I will try to bring my camera to the workshop tomorrow..

The grey stuff is body sealent that I use over all welds to keep the rust out
