So started building my Sub Boxes today, and i trusted myself with power tools!

Image

Test fitted the subs (i know theyre cheap but theyre going in a work van so if they get damaged theyre cheap to replace)

Image

All the panels in kit form:

One dry built:

And both dry built:

Next is to dismantle, fit the ports, glue the edges, seal the inside joints and fit the subs. Then carpet them and modify the bulkhead to accept them....

Carried on with the boxes today. Didnt have a compass so had to take ages to draw a circle to be able to cut out the port hole:

Then took the boxes apart to glue each panel together, then sealed the joints inside and out:

Weathers holted any more progress so hoping for a dry day in the week....

Well had a bit of a spend up today. Bought some wheels, an ST steering wheel, all the towing eye caps and parking sensor collars, a set of parking sensors, a new side door as mine is damaged, and an electric window/mirror kit including the door cards, switches, looms and mirrors themselves!
I also bought a new weather strip as mine started peeling, and was a bugger to get the sticky stuff off so it was a clean surface to stick on the new one.
Then treated it to a wash. Was going to polish it too but i think ill get it mopped first! Heres the pics:

And new one in place:

And all clean :)

Also another one parked next to me at work today. A SWB low roof with some 18s on:

Started as this:

During:

Image

And after:

Image

I know its a common mod but makes a big difference. Ill be colour coding the writing too.

Done some more mods to the bulkhead, i.e. making a window, cutting out port holes so they fire in the cab, and holes for the speakers ill get round to fitting!

Image

And temporarily back in. Tool box moved to side door for easy access, and both sub boxes mounted. The Ports fire into the cab and its not hugely loud, but enough! I am thinking of cutting holes above the boxes the same size as the box face, and making a curved funnel so the subs also fire in the cab. Not too sure if itll work or not so ill be asking on the audio forums.

So today i started taking my dash apart:

Image

Image

Cut out a template from cardboard:

Image

And checking clearance:

Image

Drew the heater controls and DIN apature:

Image

Transfered it over to some thin wood as its easier to use for templates than cardboard:

Image

And roughly cut out for trialing:

Image

So ill carry on making it up then ill make it for real!

Today then my 11 days off began so i started on the connect. Went to the painters and all my stuff was mid prep:

Image

Image

And he was also working on his race car:

Image

And today the first two banded steels arrived. these are the 2" front ones, but needed to try them on the back to see how much more i can get away with on the rear:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

So that shows a 2" band fits straight on the rear. So now to use a primitive gauge to check distance. This is what i wanted, 4":

Image

Image

But far too much so i think im going to go with this which is 3":

Image

I should still be able to open the side door without cutting it, but will still need an extended arch So to continue stripping the van down:

Image

Then turned it round and tried this wheel on where itll end up:

Image

Image

Image

Image

And carried on stripping:
