Rover V8 to Transit MT75 Gearbox Adapter

As promiced, some pictures of the 'mocked up' engine mountings, L/H;

The card patterns were cut out from templates using the CAD files so are pretty much as will be produced, the 'real' ones will be in steel though!
From the 'mock ups' we can confirm that it will be possible to remove the starter motor with the mounting in place and that all the fixings can be accessed with a socket.

What's the.coup re Flywheel, rover flywheels are well chunky will you use rover or ford Flywheel?

Wouldn't it be stronger it the square section was extended to go over the Transit mount fixings?

With the angled ends, you could still easily get to the nuts.

Hi Robbie, simplest solution is to use the RV8 flywheel, the Land/Range Rover ones are easily obtainable and accept the larger heavy duty Transit clutch, also use the standard RV8 starter motor that way.

You are correct there mate, the 'box section' part of the mount is open to re-design, I would much prefere it to extend to over the Transit mounting, simmilar to the way we did the V6 Essex ones.
The box sections in the pics were 'rescued' from the scrap bin, but were sufficient to confirm access and fit.

When they are manufactured properly, with longer sections, you are welcome to take credit for the design improvement

Hi, How soon will this adaptor plate and spigot be available? I am just about to start my next V8 conversion on a smiley Luton, already V8-ed a '91 Recovery Transit. Does it use the standard V8 flywheel redrilled to take the Transit clutch? Thanks!

The conversion uses the standard V8 clutch and flywheel.
The larger clutch used on the 4x4 V8s is the same one as the heavy duty one fitted to the Di powered Transits.

Our recomendation is to use the 4x4 flywheel and clutch assembly with the standard Mt75 release bearing.

The adapter plates have been developed, a sample has been produced, see earlier in the thread.
The spigot bearings have been selected and I expect a delivery of these later this week.
All that remains is for us to assemble a 'batch' of engine mountings.

The parts to connect the engine to the gearbox, including all fixings, will be priced at £175, the same as our Essex 'kit'.
The pricing of the engine mountings and power steering adapter parts will not be 'confirmed' untill these parts have beed assembled.

How soon are you likely to 'move forward' mate?

As soon as possible, I actually collected a 5 speed LT77 box yesterday but am keen to try the conversion with the Transit box. We are moving to France and after one trip in the diesel luton I am going to cut the travelling time down and the only way to do that is with a V8!!! I'll only need the adaptor plate and spigot bearing to start with, having already done a recovery truck with a V8 and P6 gearbox this should be a breeze! I'll cobble my own engine mounts. I am only down near Dover so may pop up for a chat next week? Cheers, Howard

The incredible gearchange mechanism for the Rover P6 gearbox to Transit fitment... but it works. Engine and gearbox were centralised in the chassis (Transit crank is off centre) so as to make the bulkhead mods easier, hence the off centre gearlever. The gear lever was lengthened as was the portion underneath the 'ball' to get the throw at the top of the gearlever to an acceptable level. The down side with this conversion is the P6 4 speed gearbox only has a 1:1 top gear... this gives 18mph per 1000 rpm with the 4.63:1 rear axle.
