That sounds like a fantastic project! The Mk1 Short Wheelbase Transit is a classic choice for a day van. Since the body is solid and comes from a dry climate like Malta, you have a great foundation to build on. Dealing with surface rust is common after sandblasting, but once you clean and seal the metal, it will look amazing. It will be a wonderful way for your family to travel to shows and explore the country together. Taking your time to get the interior right will make those trips much more comfortable.
