3 weekends, including the trip to Warrington to remove the bits.

Got to get it all vacuumed out, re-gassed and checked for leaking, will maybe have to replace all the "o" rings first
If and when it works, I'll see how it goes, 'cause that'll be expensive all that ECU stuff

Got the belt and tensioners done this morning....never again! What a crap job, remove alternator and wedge out of the way (it will not come out! [got the 105A one too ]) Remove the two alternator mounts, one steel and one alloy, and replace with the donor bits, the top alloy one has one of the idlers and the tensioner assembly, the bottom steel mount has the hole for the tensioner spring. The other idler sits on a stud, (already there ) totally out of sight under the engine mount. All the pics I took are crap, due to the very limited space at the front of the engine.

Getting the belt on was a total tw*t too, tensioner pulley needs to be removed, the one the TIS says cannot be removed in situ. , belt fitted, tensioner replaced and compressed using makeshift tool on the right:-



...belt slipped over pulleys, and tensioner released to tension belt.

Makeshift tool for undoing / replacing the tensioner is the ground down 8mm allen key on the left.

Engine running and everything ok........so far.








Got to get it gassed up and tested for leaks now.......

Went to Fords for this, to be told "unobtainable that sort of thing, all chucked away when a vehicle goes out of production"
so had a word with the parts man who could be arsed, and 1 x 4156175 Decal YC1H 19A688 AB ordered successfully! This is the same as your TDCi Mark, just hope it's the same as the early ones.

Went to have it gassed this afternoon, 990 grams of R134a and 30 ml refridgerant oil, and icy cold air from the vents

...but, there are problems.

There may be a leak from one of the joints (only one so far they couldn't put in any UV dye, someone had used it all up ), and the fan(s) do not start when the A/C is switched on, and after a short period of working, the compressor clutch is cutting in, and almost straight back out again ( )
The chap at the garage said (he wasn't aware of the fact that it wasn't factory fitted) that the low pressure switch (new, attached to the receiver / drier) was working, and that as soon as the compressor kicks in, the high pressure switch cuts it straight out, due to the obvious high pressure caused by lack of cooling air to the condensor.

So, after all that, it seems like the PCM will have to be programmed to accept the A/C, or there is a fault with the fans.

The A/C seems to work at 60 MPH on the motorway, switched it off after a while due to freezing to death

i think mine isnt as cold maybe get it regassed at somepoint!
its a great shame my local dealer dont do it only the car place!

Without the fan running on the radiator pack, there will be no air flow across the condenser at idle and low speed.......so very little in the way of A/C operation at best....at worst the pressures within the system will be too great and the high pressure switch will cut the compressor clutch out.

hmm what will you do now then ?? can you just have your pcm re-flashed or is it a new/another pcm needed
