before went mad and handed over the folding stuff for it had a good crawl round underneath and couldnt see any problems  the mot found a couple of small patches needed then me with the wire wheel on the angle ginder turned them into several large plates  mainly the top of both chassis rails and the top of the front crossmember as you can see in the pictures so that is the only current rust but the front spring hangers had already been plated and the outer edges of the steps and we wont metion the passenger door (appears only the outer skin but will know for sure once i fire in with the angle grinder) but that is the only repairs i have found so although it looks pretty dire the actual base vehicle is sound even the rubber floor mat is intact as i said in one of my other posts if the body turns out to be to much i could always turn it into a flat bed but one of the biggest reasons the body looks so poor is a previos owner has liberally daubed various types and colours of mastic over the ally trims so hopefully (with everything crossed) will take the trim off and rip the mastic off clean up the trim and reinstall it (sound easy dont it) and also it looks like the ally panneling above the cab has become a touch perforated! as for the inside as far as i know its all original except the soft furnishing covers but has suffered the ravages of time in a few places the worst being the wardrobe which needs the door rehanging and the shelves remaking this is the thing which scares me the most (me and wood dont get along to well together!!!)
quote I have never seen rust on a chassis cab roof before!
well you live and learn can i charge you a finders fee?

nice work mate 8)
good to see people taking on projects like this, giving them a new lease of life rather than the usual "scrap it"

not a productive weekend blacked the window surround and the passenger side mirror and the metal bar in the door then ran out of paint so connected up the sidelights bolted the bonnet back on and connected the washers well that was saturday but sunday was a real disaster it was raining plus eldest had an autistic day one tantrum and two major meltdowns so that was sunday fubar but today had a clean round of the cab so i can get in and drive it to mot this afternoon got an estimate for the window £50 :o :o :o and had a closer look at some of the trims round the body    the edges of the body under the trims are a bit motheaten and there must be at least 4 different smears of mastic around them so conversion to a flatbed is moving up the options list or a mad idea fit a luton body and make a stealth camper but it looks like a couple of how toos coming up removing a camper window to fit new glass rebuilding motheaten camper seams or maybe turning a camper into a truck!!!!!
so thats it until 4.15 when it hits the test station oh and i increased the value by putting a couple of gallon into the tank (must be at least double now!)

well best of luck on that front how far away are you from the fatefull day? but dont loose any sleep over it if the worst happens just look on the failsheet as a work list and work your way through it with mine i put it to the test before doing anything so i did what was needed and didnt waste time and money on work that wasnt needed
had a bit of a bash at the seals this evening and a wire brush on the angle grinder makes short work of the mastic but struggles a bit with the troweled on household gloss must take some pictures in case it is worthy of a how to or more likely with me a how not to

they sure did but guess what unless the job is 110% perfect they will have to do it again and again until i am satisfied  and also i will not be darkening their door again
still on a positive side mower is now serviced :D and have had the da fired up and rubbed off the trowelled on household gloss along the bottom of one side :) just the other side the rear light mounts and the cab roof to do and then primer and a coat of white and until i flash over the cab again thats all the white paint done (hopefully) :D then i can really rip into the seals around the body and flat and beige that :( or :D i dont know which

pcked up the window today all fine paid cash and got a 17.5% discount   so carted it home and popped it in used slightly larger screws to try and get more secure fixing all this after cleaning off all the old mastic round the hole and round the the frame so now have a window in the side instead of a piece of hardboard
Image
so here is a picture of the new window back in its home
Image
here is a picture of the back of it this was taken as it was ready to go to its test
and here is something stupid
when i came back inside i found our stupid greyhound cuddled up to youngests teddy bear and before any smutty comments SHE has been done

did a bit more rubbing down today and finished both lower sides at the rear and then i had a bright idea  i thought i would start pulling the edge trims off the body so the rubber trim was already off so it was just undo the screws and pull the trim off :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
oh my god what the f*** have i done !!!!
the corner was almost nonexistant in places just held in place by a crusty mix of corrosion mastic and sanitary putty but too late to stop now so fired up the wire brush on the grinder and ripped all the crap off then the da to clean what was left (not a great deal!!) then gave the remains a coat of primer and at the moment am letting that dry and will go at it again tommorow (it might look better then)
a couple of pictures to let you see what i found when i pulled the trim off !!!!

oh well everything progressing as normal 1 step forward and at least 3 back  after a major sesion of repairing crusty edges i decided to hit into a bit more painting so took the gas bottle door off to get some paint made up nope we cant match it!!! oh sod it then i decided shall white the entire thing so headed home and started so now the lower half of the drivers side is now gleaming white :D a little bit orange peel but what the hell it now shows me (as if i didnt know) how flat the cab looks and also the gas bottle door dosent want to fit back on
