Re: mk5 rotten a?s! - MOT Failed

Postby Breakdown Biker » Mon Jun 08, 2009 5:48 pm

Well, the bad news is, she failed the MOT :(

The good news is that I only need two new tyres and a set of wiper blades :D :D :D

All the welding passed and the tester even commented on the "good work" I've done underneath. The van was a bit smokey yesterday so I got two bottles of Comma diesel magic, one in the tank and one in the filter and she cleared up great. Gave her a good thrashing on the way to the MOT to clear the cobwebs and scrub off the brakes, and well chuffed as it's running great. (even with the extra 1/2 ton of plate)  That's the first time she's been on the road since April 08 so looks like I'll be ready to camp this month 8) :D :D

Thanks mate it is, and the testers comments really pleased me. :D
I'd thought of coming down for the meet as I missed Slippy's. Even know where it is as I used to deliver trucks to Scunthorpe, but I can't get that week-end off :(
Never mind, I'm sure there will be plenty more meets, right now I'm just chuffed as f"@k that the van is good, and will be on the road soon 8) 8) :D :D
All that welding scared the bollocs off me when I first saw it all  but now that it's been done, and properly checked, I'm itching to get everything sorted out and get on the road :!: I really enjoyed my wee run in her today as she ran well,( once the additive had worked it's magic  ) and I noticed people checking it out as I passed through town.
Yes, today was one of those days when I'm glad I chose a transit, they're cool 8) :D

Hi you have had simalur problems to me i thought getting a T reg mk5 it wouldn't be to bad untill i noticed the floor was rusty and then that speaded to underneath but your getting on well.I was untill i had an angle grinder injury last monday nothing that serious a big graze and 11 stiches but i should be back on it later in the week. But i wont be angle grinding with that grinder underneath again it's one that doesn't stop when it catches so im mainly going to use quality wire brush ends to clean up from now on, have a browse at my welding before this i didn't have much experience keep up the good work.

Ouch! hope you're ok mate, thats a bitch:( your welding looks great though.
Try using a flap wheel on your grinder, they clean up the metal very well and are easier to control than a solid grinder disk:)

Hi thanks my legs healing well now stiches come out on thursday,to be honest im itching to get back underneath it.Ill try the flap wheels how long do they last ive seen them in toolstation £1.62p each 40 grit would they be the right ones. The grinder i was useing was a good one it is a makita with varible speed but the bl**dy thing keeps going when it catches and you let go, ive also got a cheaper Aldis craft one which i use with the cutting disc that dosn't have varible speed but it does stop when you let go so i think i maybe useing that underneath from now on,anyway thanks for your advice luke

I think they last about 1/2 as long as a solid wheel, but I found the flap wheel easier to use and it gave a cleaner finish to weld on. I'd need to check what grit they were but I think 40 grit would be fine
