The fact is once you have owned a mk6 or 7 you will never want to downgrade to a mk5 or lower. Mk5 has its good reliability fine but there are alot more other good things about a mk6 which a mk5 dont have. Also not all mk6 are unreliable. Not just that some people like me self don't take reliability as a 1st priority!

I have been welding for most of my life and I have absolutely no idea what settings you need with that sort of set-up.....Sorry.....

Try the middle.... then flat out cos I reckon it'll look like pigeon droppings... then lower it a bit....... :D .....

Hang on... did you say you've had it for 5 years and you haven't figured out the settings on it yet?.........

There must be loads of people that have this sort of welder tho.... So you must be able to get some help....

i bought it for a mk3 escort cabriolet restoration that never happened so the welder sat in my grandads garage until m.o.t time when a car i had needed welding and as it was a rush to get it passed my brother tried it. but i want it done neat and never bothered to practice.

I think the best way is to get some scrap steel and practice... practice and practice........

Inty on this forum has been practising on his orange beast and now he's making money out of charging for his welding skills........ Some would say he's almost coded now.... :D ... and if you look back through his posts you will see how his welding skills have improved massively.. :D .. Its all about practice... and perhaps someone showing you every now and then.

Similar to my welder but mine uses gas .
I usaually use max / 1 power settings with wire speed 3-4 for panel work.
