Been to a few fly ball events with the van and its been superb

Now running her on bio diesel. I think its a bit quiter although I have fitted a decent sub so I cant hear much else.

On the horns of a real dilemma:

The gearbox is whining and she is a bit juddery in top. I have taken it to my local garage who say the box is on its last legs. They aren't a transmission specialist but they are honest people with quite a bit of knowledge.

How much is a second hand gearbox? I cant possibly do it myself, I dont have the gear, space or the know how. Given that I am a civil servant and despite what the papers seem to be saying I earn below the national average, the government still seems to think its my fault the country hasn't got any money, so things are really tight at the minute.

The other part of the dilemma is that the MOT is due on the 18th of this month. There shouldnt be too much wrong as we dont do many miles, it looks sound underneath and I have repaired the arches..again.

Not sure what to with her. I dont just want to let another mark 4 slip off this mortal coil.
Id rather somone who could do something with her took her.

50 quid for a second hand MT75 box, depending on where you are in the country I would have thought 60 labour, not exactly expensive in the grand scheme of things

as kev says there not that dear prob b worth chucking it in foran mot 1st see what else it need both part and labour just id hate 4 u to spend out a couple of hundred then find it fails on another couple of hundred. hope that makes sence just a thought and only a though have u checked ure prop shaft bearing? these are common to go and r a lot cheeper

Prop shaft bearing? Im only a haynes 2 spanners sort of guy, how would I look at this? The bloke at the garage thought the box was whining but it does judder most in top which would make sense if a bearing is spinning faster it would get orse the faster it span.

right the whining noise could well b gearbox but also could b prob bearing. juddering could b clutch but also could b prop bearing

how 2 check prop bearing is to climb under van hopefully ure not to big if not stick it on some form of ramp even a kerb once under there ul c the back of ure gear box 1 end and the axle the other end inbetween these thell b a probshsft suport. crab the prop shaft and try upwards movement ull c if its got any if so time 4 a new 1 cheap enough of ebay and quiet easy 2 change it may not cure the whining noise but ure gear box could go on for ages whinning it might even b the rear axle whinning? but def worth checking prop bearing 1st

cheers, been underneath rather than one long straight piece there are 3 pieces. The last one that goes to the diff I can move upward very slightly, it feels like there is a tiny bit of movement in the propshaft itself, it is the one with rubber peice in it. Should there not be any movement in at all?
I think if the box is whining I figure I should try and find a reasonably priced one as I have found a lad who fixes horseboxes who will fit a new box for £50, he doesnt know transits very well however. I could probably find a box for about £50 and get him to change the bearing at the same time if he has the prop shaft off in any case or is that just nonsense?

Like what you have done, im in the process of converting my van to a camper, ive spent just under 40euro on combicolour paint,36euro on screws,nuts,bolts and stuff and all the interior I got for free.
