how do you treat the chassis for rust and stuff mate, like the patch where u have welded above the rear springs in your picture,

just layers and layers of underseal ??

When the truck was cut in half I took the time to blast out all the crap inside the chassis rails, then when the welding was complete I waxoiled from front to back (note waxoil is flammable!) Then I put in extra drainage wherever rust had occured before, also all welds were seam sealed before being painted with u/seal and then overpainted with stonechip. most of the truoble with M2 was I could not get at the chassis to maintain it, so thats why M3's bits are all exposed

i get you :)

sound good

i have a mk6 transit a fiesta mk5 track car (in pieces as blew it up) and a mk6 fiesta st

but all of this realy inspries me and i want a beavertail recovery truck (mk5 transit chasis) i think and going to hopefully build it myself when fiesta is re built, to take it to track and then can hopefully tow another one behind on trailer

so i cant wait to watch the build you do on m2 to transform it into a beavertail

how far do you intend to extend the chassis?? total of 21ft with crew cab??

M2 will have a 13 foot wheelbase, with the max overhang at the back I should have about a fourteen foot body, that would make about a 22 foot overall length as a maximum. That means putting about 3 feet into the chassis. I have done a job today and have a pic, quite fitting for an 85 truck :D

Its my next resto job and it belongs to the guy I am making the beaver for! A real good customer!!
I am going to to try and finish the body over the weekend as I dont like the big gap in the middle

For the work I do a spec is perfect, I can lift any thing provided it has at least one axle with wheels on it :D Try draggin a motor with no front leg on it up a beaver  The speed of loading is top too, I can pull up, drop the spec and be away in less than 3 minutes :D Especially good on the M25 at night in the pissing rain  I have some frames and straps for holding motors with no wheels on the spec and skates for moving them on the floor. Another good thing is that you are only carrying part of the car, I can carry 1000 kg on the spec so I can rear lift big motors that you couldnt put on a beaver

Hi Muttley, are you going to fill that gap with a sort of spoiler and move the emergency lights on to it. Great job. By the way it remindes me of a model i v seen on a Dinky model Transit converted to a spec lift like yours

Cheers Mad Lensman :D I started on filling the gap today, the one between cab and body.
It has to be accessible for large items so the front will be two piece and will form a ramp for engines etc. I think it looks better with the light bar on the flyer :D It will all have to be panelled in yet and doors made for either side, but its a start :)
