just thought it would be an easier way too go, 2.8 flywheel,(easy) 2.8 box(easy but costly maybe) mod ur prop(just the front half) make a gearbox crossmember or add a bit on your original one like i did (easy) unless you got all the hard to find bits to connect a v6 to an mt75 of course
but then you still got to find the right mt75 :?
type 9 looks easier to me, but then im biased
good luck wiv whatever you decide
this ones quite cheap at the mo, needs the tailsection swopping out though for a 2wd one

As we all know, the major internal parts of the Mt75 box are interchangeable between casings, that is the gear clusters.

So, if you have established that you need to use a Transit Mk3/4/5 Mt75, (you could use the Cologne Mt75 with the smaller flywheel, clutch and starter, no need to use the SVO adapter plate then), this would place the gear lever further back though, it is just a case of stripping your chosen box and installing the gear clusters of your choice.

According to Bortaf, a higher fifth gear is available in the 2.5 diesel scorpio box, quite rare though, there are different gear sets in the Mk3/4/5 di box, possibly another available in the Mk5 DOHC box, possibly other different ones available in Mk6 Mt75's, BUT, plenty more available in 'car' boxes.

The point being is that you are well advised to widen your search outside the Mk3/4/5 model range as the internals will interchange.

I'm confused (easily), this box is meant to be for the v6, but fits a mk6?? I get the casting bit, just seems strange to have one name for different boxes.

Confused?
Probably all that Tripe!

All the boxes referred to are Mt75's, all Ford did was change front casings to alter bell housing configurations and alter gear selectors to move gear lever positions.
Alan has a V6 cologne, so a V6 box will fit the engine directly, or he can use a Di bell housing and an SVO adapter, as Nick has done on his.

The 'car' type Mt75, all the V6 bell housing types are this type, will place the gear lever further back in the van than the van type, but there are two types of these, DOHC bell housing and Di bell housing patterns.
To further confuse matters, the Mk6 is really a 'car' box, given that the selectors are altered to place the gear lever further back than in the Mk5.These are available with two different bell housings, DOHC and Duratorq!

But, fortunately for us, Ford decided to make the gear cluster assemblies interchangeable between gearboxes, giving us a wide range of possible 'hybrid' boxes to 'play' with!

Apparently, the MTX75, front wheel drive version does share some common internal componants, exactly what, I am unsure, but likely some of the gear cluster parts.

The '75', referes to the distance between the main/output shaft and the layshaft, 75mm.

The point being is that they, (the rear wheel drive ones at least), are all 'hybrids', and many others that Ford had no use for could be assembled.
