Things have taken a small step backwards this week after some nice person dented my wing and bonnet. I can only assume someone has dropped a pallet on it while moving a stack.
This is the only trouble of keeping it in a working yard, but nobody knows anything about it :!:

Im gonna leave it alone for the time bieng as i cant be bothered to fix it, that big dent id going to take quite a bit of work to get the profile right.

So to cheer myself up i decided to carpet the cab, i got some carpet of ebay that has sound deadening already bonded to the back,

I just layed the rubber mat over the top and cut around it, leaving extra on the sides as the mat has been cut previously to allow for carpet to be fitted over the top.

I also stuck some lining carpet to the rear bulkhead before i refit the seats

Hopefully tomorrow will see the cab fitted out, weather permitting.

So.....An easy job to fit the seats, or so i thought.

The original ones were well faded and quashy, so i bought some better ones of ebay with headrests.

What i didnt notice was that they were left hand drive ones, so i had to take the base of the original one and swap them over and also i had to swap over the catch on the bottom of the passenger seat from one side to the other.

When i did get the seats in i realised why someone was selling them in the first place as the stem of the headrest was digging in my back where the padding had given, this was the same for the other seat as well and the headrests wont pull out.

So i then had to remove the seat cover on the passenger seat and cut out the headrest and the holder as i could feel this as well. The drivers seat was more involved as you had to dismantle the back from the squab to get at the tabs holding the cover on.

Finally then i got the seats in and cleaned them up with upholstery cleaner and gave the cab a good clean as well.

I cant tell you how mad i still am about it, no one seems bothered about it either, they prob think ill just fix it, but its a set back and i hate doing bodywork anyhow, i just think that it will always show now.

Mmm, get that. I dont like the adventure marks either, but there is a sort of reality check about them. I used to hate scratches o records til a girlfriend said she remembered every scratch and every moment and they made the records hers...fuzzy logic but sometimes it helps. But it is a b@gger when other people dont get the effort :)

It was time to tackle those dents now the paint has arrived, and on the whole they were not to difficult to do.

Once i had done them i primered them with matt black paint so it would not show through on the top coat.

I then wet flat the rest of the cab with a sanding sponge, these work really well and give a better finish as they contour the body.

So a 50/50 mix with the paint and on goes another coat.

As you can see the the paint goes on really shiney. I gave the body work a real hard sanding this time to get rid of the orange peel, there is plenty of paint on now so i didnt have to worry about rubbing through, and the finish shows it was worth the effort.

The only down side to this was i did the same to the bonnet to get rid of some roller lines but when i applied the paint i got a bad reaction, bugger!

My plan was to leave it for a day, rub it back down and give it a light spray with laquer to seal it, but even the lightest of spray caused it to blister again.

Bieng a sunday i couldnt get any isolater paint so i bought some water based quick drying varnish and rollered that on for a couple of coats followed by a coat of laquer to test for reaction, and all was well, phew!

The roof and underside of the luton was next to get some paint.

I top coated the passenger side skirt l, and put on a silver coachline as well.

Image

Inbetween that i waxoiled inside of the doors to prevent those new repair pieces from going rusty over winter.

Fitted the drivers side door handle. i fitted a new barrel and sprayed with satin black.

Image

The finish on the paint now is so much better than i could have hoped for. 8)
