got the double seat bace re-upholstered


unfortunatly i havent been to see the transit in a whilst as my dads metro has finally broken down
a combination of a loose timing chane and presure from the pistons/block leaking into the sump and blowing oil out the oil presure switch (like a sump bung)
causing to always be low on oil.....ITS A METRO WHAT DID YOU EXPECT

well the vans comming along nicely - as time is getting a bit tight i decided not to cut the whole dash out but just to do as many others have and cut out a section on the rhd side and plate the hole up on the lhd side
brake are now plumed in and just need to be bled and re-filled, master cylinder and steering collum painted
wings are on and preped for painting and all lhd equiptment removed











hole on rhd side neatly cut out and edges folded over

also i bought a mk2 cranked gear stick to put in the gearbox but it was different so the gear stick has been cut and the cranked section welded in and a sleave over the top but atleast its facing the driver (rhd) now

there is only 1 person that cuts them out that i know of and thats me and you will now be the second ,and next one i do you can come and cut the hole out for me as thats a exelent job
dont forget to put your wipers the corect way wile your heater is out as they wont look right like they are at the moement and when it rains you wont see out of the corner of the screen on your side

talking of changing the wiper armes - is it just a case of taking the armes off and putting them on in a different possition - i thought you had to change the whole mechanism

and a bit of bad news im afrade..thats not my work cutting the dash hole but i agree a exelent job -
the guy who is doing it cirtainly takes care and concideration in his work -
i think what he did was to leave a bit of extra metal all the way round when cutting it out then bending it down to form the lip with some pliers or similar

so did i when i see it i was looking for the join

no you need a english wiper motor ,with abit of messing you could probly use the german one
i normaly use the german mecanisim and the english motor
but i think it can be turned around with abit of fiddling
arms are not a problem just bend them the otherway in a vice if you dont want to spend big bucks on a chrome set

dont you need to cut new holes in the scuttle panel tho for the new wiper motor spindles position?

yes and fill the old ones in or gromet them if you dont do this it will allways look lhd the holes are easy its exact reverse of were they are now
can you get a motor from a scrapper? even a mk2 this will help you see whats what

i could get hold of a naf mk2 one from a scrapper, a couple have come up on ebay aswell - if i had thought about it when i was cutting the dash out the doner van i could have taken the scuttle aswell

you are running short of time tho if you want to get it on the road, but when you get the heater in it will make it near on impossible to get the wiper motor in and out, you could allways do it at a latter date but would be better now and then its done

o no it wont be done before gaydon thats somthing for a bit later..and getting the heater in and out wasnt difficult - you just have to be quick with a cork

also ive just bought a gearbox and prop for the 2 litre v4 - i diddnt know wheather i needed an english prop or not so i got one anyway but again thats for later on

well if not for gaydon then transitmania so you have time to do the wipers now then english arms and blades are expensive so your better off bending your existing ones unless you want to part with a good £60 to £80

well its got new wiper blades on it - for the mot it had to -
hmmm armes...i have a rough stab in the dark idea where i might be able to get some...altho the scap yard (not my usual one) are a funny lot who wont let you go in, they get the part for you
they had a mk1 lwb minibus in there but it was slowing crumbling to the ground as it had a load of heavey tractor tyres on the roof
