Well it was time for the test for the van, I know there was a dodgy looking bit under the van so i said i'd have a look

Image

cut back to some good metal
Image

Image

since i had it up on the lift in work i give it a few coats of underseal

Image

Image

and remembered how bad my temporary exhaust was, i may do something about that soon :)
I had a small oil leak since i fitted the engine so i went at that, i thought it would be a crank seal and got one of them but when i took it apart it turned out to be the cam seal

Image

Image

All back together again and passed the test after fitting two new rear wheel cylinders :) next job is to tidy up the bodywork i think :)

- I noticed that, also that the exhaust seems to have no silencing. 12/10, sez me!

just read the whole thread, very impressed with how quickly you're working - but I suppose with the drifting, you'll be used to panic-fast working to a deadline when summin goes wrong

I also like the banded rear steelies, looks mean on a MK3!

Van looks ace, keep doing what your doing! 8) 8)

Cheers lad :)
as for the air filter and the exhaust it is noisy inside but no worse than it was with the standard engine i don't have to rev this one as hard to get it going, i think what will make the biggest different to the noise will be fitting some good sound proofing on the bulkhead as have none now.

a box of disposable "Earplugs" and turn the "tunes" up (much cheaper than soundproofing and easier to fit)

I've had a lot of loud vehicles, the mk5 flaresides loud as well! No skin off my nose, but I do say 'WHAT??' quite a lot. I should invest in those earplugs lol but its a bit late now :?

My old mans got good ramps, but what I really need is a jack that'll take my Flareside, 'cos my old car jack has lifted over 9000 cars  and its only safe to two tonnes (about buckled when I lifted my then main car - Volvo 240GL saloon  )

Sorry if I'm detracting from the thread, can't wait for more updates of this gorjifuss MK3  :D

Well I've not updated this in a long but the van is still going strong and I've not had to do much with it :D
One of the jobs I wanted to do was fit power steering to make it that bit easier to reverse the transporter, I got a nos mk5 rack and mk3 track rods for small money off Gallagher motorsport

All fitted with new ball joints as well, makes a nicer job out of it...
Went to a ford day at Mondello park for the transits 50th birthday

That was a great day, met some great people and got a spin in some lovely vans :D
Other than that the van has been all over the place and never misses a beat, the bodywork is getting very untidy and could really do with a repaint but it will have to do now...

Just read through the thread, good work
I've seen the van at Retrostock, caught my attention with the LS reg as I live in laois.
Got to argue with you about the "untidy" bodywork though.

Image

Mine was going for the ratvan look until I decided to bite the bullet and tidy up, not going as fast as you did but then I've a bit more to do

Image

Frightening thing about that pic is it looks in better nick there than it ever did while I was using it

Well you're really going all out with your one... What's your plan with it, have you a project thread for it?

Must start a thread actually.
She's spot on underneath and I like it way better than any of the newer ones so just trying to put it back straight and maybe a bit shiny.
The roof and front pillars are the only really big bits, but they're just panels at the end of the day.

Other than that she's had both front sills, drivers step and one and a half rear pillars over the last couple years.
Now it's rear arches (done), front wings (genuine one's in hand), scuttle, good doors (in hand) and paint.
I used to laugh about how much filler it would take to straighten it out. I'm not laughing now :(
With the mechanics done it'll practically be a new van once I'm done.

It's still taxed and tested just to hurry me up, hoping to be back on the road by Christmas and then just keep using it.
At 22 years old I reckon there's got to be another 15 or 20 left with a bit of work
