i have got to do what you have just done on your sills,

i got some primer, then stone chip to go on, then was going to put prmer ontop of stonechip and then diamond white ford paint??

Good idea?? or dont i need the primer ontop of the stonechip??

can i just put the diamond white ontop??

Thanks Hitch

(love the mk7 lights, just ordered mine)

Primer not needed on top on stonechip, it dries off matt and is a good base. Just make sure you give it long enough to through dry and dont use to thick a coat. Its air-drying so will takes ages if you build it up too much.

Not much to report, i'm still after a ABS sensor so if anyone reads this and they have a spare let me know.

My original plan to 'do a rust repair a week' didnt happen, be it other commitments or the weather but last night at 6.30 i decided to do the OS wheelarch. Because the weather has been so wet, damp and warm, rust has accelerated faster than normal and the paint had started to bubble beyond the edge of the arch and was now visible. The bottom corner suffers from chips and the paint was always thin here from the factory, so i stripped the paint off with a wire cup brush, D/A 180's the edges and then applied a couple of coats of Jenolite. It was quite pitted at the bottom so needed a light skim of filler, put two coats of primer on, flatted everything down, degrease, mask and spray! I had it done by 8.30pm, result! Looks pretty too.

Next on the list will be the front arches. I think these may have corroded through, depending on severity and time it may be a P40 job to keep it going a couple of years, by which point it will be up to 200k and out of my hands. These types of repairs are usually hit and miss, a quick tidy up can last up to 5 years sometimes!

Still lacking an ABS Sensor and running out of time. Was hoping this forum would help out to no avail...

I was lucky enough to get another couple of hours tonight to repair the NSF Wheelarch i had been dreading.

Fortunatly, it looked a lot worse than it really was. I suspect it was inside out but it wasnt, the rust had crept from the inner edge into the panel, once taken back to bare metal and treated there wasnt a pinhole to be seen. The mudflap had been rubbing on the arch which had created its own area of rust, this was the worst bit.

Usual treatment of wire cup brush, D/A 80 then 180, liberal use of Jenolite with two applications, light skim of filler to cover the deeper pits then primer filler, and 3 coats of diamond white with a splash of rocket accelerator...

Some pics -

Should be good for a couple of years now, needs the inside of it treating before the winter though.

Van got MOT'ed yesterday and failed. Needed complete new rear brakes and one wheel cylinder has been leaking, luckily the drums were ok. Needs front tyres too, and a couple of bulbs.
