its faux leather backed with an elastic type backing so its pretty stretchy. compound curves are a beast though so I had to plan sections to make it look neater and easier to apply.
I had a good crack on it today but I instruct a Thai Boxing class on Thursday evenings so had to call it quits for now. Should get it finished tomorrow and I'll post some pics
OK I'll risk the critics by posting "work in progress" set of pics from the dashboard.
Still got lots of trimming to do and lots of piping to fit in the joins so its no where near finished but you get the idea. Done the screen pillars as well but I have to think of a solution for all the windscreen vents rather than just have holes in the material.
theres a couple of slack spots which I will pull through at the end more bubbles but the will go
Wow, well done Bud! This is my first post on here and seeing what you've done has inspired me with my own conversion. Keep it up and keep posting the pictures.
Today let my mrs in on the act and stripped the seat ready for its cream leather. She unpickecked all the seams and used them as a pattern, shes busy sewing them up now. No training tomorrow so we will do the same with the double seat and hopefully get them all sewn up and back on the frames. I'll finish off the dash tomorrow
Top work mate, and hats off to the Mrs. I'm usually looking at a different kind of site when I think "I wish my Mrs could do that!!!!!" Seriosly though, good work. Now I've seen someone using that feau leather, I might give it a go. The link for the for Rustoleum was really good as well. Great thread ,mate, keep it coming, and give the camera to the mrs, your pictures tell a thousand words. You can see the effort being made in them and your van is gonna be really smart.
Its fairly easy, the hardest part is actually removing the seat covers. Once you've done that, unpick all the seams and you have a set of patterns to draw round onto the back of the material. Then simply remember which bits fitted to which and sew it all up
Hello noobrider cracking work your doing there, curious about the rustoleum your using, did you us a primer before the blue coat and does it go straight on to the plastic without primer cheers.
no primer required its a sort of plasticised paint so has some flexibility in it but only time will tell on the bumper. I have a spare tin for touch ups.
Its a rust treatment paint similar to hammerite smooth but with excellent coverage and opacity. I belive if you are doing a light colour over a dark base then it will need more coats but it just needs a cleanish surface more than anything
