sorry for lack of updates, been pretty busy outwith van work.

i decided to rub the whole van down again and start again, now with a bit of experience and a few pointers, also ill be a bit more prepared.

i have a far better compressor and tools and also less of a rush.

i will update more once ive done a bit more. but its been an experience!

cheers, some people say use a higher air pressure some say lowest setting, and also one person said once i put on my last coat of paint laquer it whilst it still looks a bit wet, to seal in the shine, too many different things to think about

ill be honest ive never seen a really good paint job using this stuff
go out and get some decent paint you cen get some gloss black 2k direct gloss so no need to laquer over the top

this rustoleum...can you put anythin on top of it?? is it a synthetic based paint..if he trys lacquering it or using another type of paint he can end up in a right old mess

i sprayed some laquer over it just to see what it would look like since im going to sand it down again, seemed to be ok, didnt rub off and gave it a "wet look"

do like rolls royce did years ago, give it about 4 coats of under coat 6 coats of gloss all with a brush and then rub down to its flat (all brushmarks are gone) and then buff. Sorry prob wont work with 2k paints

nah that wouldnt happen m8 if it was gonna react you would have known right away...it all blisters up and flakes off...almost as if youd put nitromores on it,,,,it turns into like a chewing gum kinda mess... and bro its real hard work trying to put summat like that right believe me

looking at your van i would say the paint was not thinned enough, you seem to have an orange peel finish. had this happen to me years ago when i was over cautious and afraid of runs so i mixed it too thick.
if you think you have a heavy enough coat on it you could flatten it a bit with 2000 wet and dry with a rubbing block CAREFULLY. then do it with a mop and rubbing compound

firstly flat all the paint you have put on and start again

how are you mixing your paint up ie paint to thinners ratio
what sort of gun and compressor do you have

find a piece of scrap metal you can try it out on first , once you have all the paint mixed and in the gun open the fan width up fully so that you cover as much as possible ,
as you make the first sweep with the gun the paint should be a mist coat but there should be no spots of paint visable just a mist
if you can see tiny spots on the metal the paint is too thick still
so assuming that there is just a mist coat and all is fine paint the wole van with a mist coat it will dry almost straight away
so 2 of them then a wet coat
on the final wet coat it should be a bit heavier than the first 2 coats and cover all the panel so nothing can be seen under it .
the paint should look wet as it goes on with no dry patches

thanks guys, im in the process of sanding the whole van down to a smooth again, you are right, i was worried about it running like water so it was probably thicker than it needed to be, however it was mixed to the ratio stated on the tin (Rustoleum 10% thinners to paint)
the compressor and 'tools' are just B&Q ones, 8bar with 2.5L tank, and a gun with a paint tank on top of it, i have one with the paint holder on the bottom of gun, does it make a difference? my neighbour is a fitter for Manitou and has a beast of a compressor he said i can have a shot of.

im hoping to have another motor on the go soon so that will give me a better chance to finish this van. as its in daily use so hard to get anything done.
