If you dont put a final layer of lacker on and leave it in prime or filler it wil start rusting quik becose primer and filer are a bit porus so leave moist in.

Wy not give it a quik paint job whit a roller/brush ,always better than let it rust away afther al youre hard work.

That grey is stonechip that says on the can that it is ok as a top coat.

If it was me mate id try and get it finished and sprayed will look great all sprayed after all that work and will last years more now all that rust is cut out. If you get really fed up with it and want to sell it let me know

I am keeping the van. It's a bloody good van. It just looks ugly

I just feel I don't have the skill to get it to a decent standard as I don't have the garage now or the time.

I'll just keep it mechanically sound.

Ding, ding.... Time people, please! Project has now officially ended.

Salt has ripped open all the filler and all of it wounds. It should go through another MoT as it seems sound. It is just the bodywork now f*** beyond repair.

If anyone has a mk4/5 going in decent condition, let me know. Don't want any filler on the van. I'd rather see a little damage than find hidden damage later on. Needs to be long wheel base this time. Either semi high roof or a high roof.

Had a rear brake cylinder go while on a job yesterday. Luckily we had finished and the van was empty! Spent today replacing both rear cylinders and shoes as well as tightening the handbrake and then bleeding everything. Also got the front discs to do at some point before the MoT.

Well...... The bag of sh*t failed it's mot.

Anyone know where the progress report was on here of someone welding the rear crossmember? I can't find it.

MoT fail and advisory results:

Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid.
Offside rear fog lamp not working.
Rear x-member excessively corroded within 30cm of towbar mounting.
Passenger seatbelt slight damage.
O/s and n/s inner wings and front suspension slightly corroded.
Rear bumper corners missing.
Rear doors repaired with tape.
O/s and n/s front wheel arches corroded.
Handbrake cable locknuts insecure.

I just want another year out of it to justify spending the cash I did on it last year.

It's got a re-test tomorrow morning at 9:15am.

Done most of the fails and a few of the advisories so it should pass.

If it fails, I'll drive it down to the scrappy and get my ££ for it
