I picked up donor caravan today from Chorley in Lancs, its lovely condition inside and comes with cassette toilet and carver water boiler and fridge. The upholstery is like new and will fit perfect in the my van. Its a shame to break it really, but it has got a lot of damp along the back wall. Its a bargain at £325.

Lol, i was thinking the same thing!! I will have to get some use out of it before i sell it.

Shite weather today, not much progress this weekend, fixed the front panel on but still need to put rubber seal and alu trim on, the top corners have not yet got any timber behind them so its not water tight yet. Lets hope for decent weather for next weekend. I must get it water tight for the winter.

I never really liked CI conversions, i always thought they looked cheap and nasty, i dont think i have been proved wrong!!! But they were a mass produced body and filled a niche in the market, they just dont stand the test of time.

Saying that tho, it is 27 years old, and i doubt it has ever had any cover in its lifetime and you dont need much of a leak to wreck havoc on the interior. Hopefuly when im done it will still be on the road in many years to come with a much more pleasing interior, and one less mk2 in the scrappers.

I wish i could say that ive done loads this weekend but other stuff always gets in the way and he weather has been terrible.

When i did eventually get cracking on Sat afternoon after what feels like a week of rain, i was greeted by a lot of unwanted water in the van. even tho i have got a tarp covering it it still blows in under the end and rolls down the van roof, this didnt help by me not putting it up on ramps before i left so the water could run the other way.

When i put the front panel back on the luton, i never had time to form some curved bit of timber for each end, hoping the tarp would stop water, but it never and i had a nice stream of water sitting on top of the decking plank i used for the base of the bunk. lucky enough it was too sealed to sink into anything, so this was to be my first job.

As you can see i never scrimped on the mastic!

Image

Once that was done i looked at the ceiling and i had a nice wet patch on the new ply i had fixed..Bugger!

My first instinct was the join between the fibreglass roof and the alu roof. this had been done previous with fibreglass and was cracking, so i needed to get it all off.

Image

Under the fibreglass was some bitumin flashing as well. This took some getting off and i still need to grind off the excess fibreglass of the bunk roof as it wont chip off.
Ive temp covered it in mastic as the rain clouds were forming and it chucked it down for the rest of the day.

On sunday i went along while it was raining to check on the leak and could see that it wasnt coming from the join but from the old gas boiler flue on the roof, so i removed that and noticed b]that some of the roof panel was corroding and had some nice pin holes that didnt help.

Image

I never had anything handy to patch this hole up with untill i remember i just removed the leisure battery box of the the caravan and it had a nice handy dividing plate that was just the right size.

Image

Plenty of mastic and it fitted a treat. What i never mentioned was i have bought some 300mm self adhesive flashing to go over the roof joint, so if these pin holes prove a problem i will cover them with that.

Image

Well needless to say it rained again so i spent my time removing some interior out of the caravan, i think i will be able to use all of it and it just will fit a treat, but i need to unscrew it all and trial fit so i know where i need to fit extra noggins.

Once i have sorted the leaks i will batten and board the luton then i can use that for storage as i am tripping over everything at the mo.
