It's a good idea alright as it takes a while to spin up the revs and theres plenty available to machine off.
I'm gonna run a standard block for the moment because this is my R&D block and then the parts will be swapped on to the engine that's in the van when its ready

Governor mod:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3107325

I packed mine with shims to allow 1mm travel in the spring. This was the most I could shim it so I could get the clip back on.
I did not touch the idle and intermediate springs

i alwasy thought you need the flywheel to balance out the momentum of the engine and help it run smooth :?

yes and no. enough crank weight once started. just really to get momentum and help build compression. after the things running, its merely a hinderance. think motorbike 16500 rpm....

think the di has a balancer on the front pulley too so that must act towards helping it run smoooth ,try starting a lawnmower without the blade attached i tryed this once and it tugged back and near took the arm off me  cus the blade on a mower is the flywheel

nope it fired but in the wrong direction i think lol ,so if you reduce the weight on the flywheel doesnt the engine crank slower just a thought ?
