The yellow masking tape reminds me of the data post vans from the ‘80’s,

I wondered if it had all been re lacquered or just cut n polished, anyway shiny

Oh I was looking at the last image.

The black line between the rear panel seam was re done after he sprayed the sides. Basically he sanded the sides, filled bits then red then clear again. Front bumper sprayed red and satin black, mirrors, bonnet and tailgate, sanded and polished, rear corners and fuel flap painted.

Where are the chunky body mouldings stolen from

They're bought for the transit, available with or without arches for swb or lwb. They cover many sins for the price. They come taped but i also used tiger seal.

I think it's 20% limo.

A very weak fairy liquid in a £1 squirty bottle like the 1 you spray the plants with.

On flat windows cut the rough zee of tint out then spray the window with lots of the water then the tint will stick to the window by laws of suction, might try out on the mrs but don't think it'll have the sand effect

I put some sellotape on the top of the tint to body to hold it. 2 bits of tape on the corner to split the film also show me the tint is in the right way round. Then squirt water on the film and then pull the clear film down whilst spraying the tint until the clear can be removed then just play about with it. I got a plastic thing to float the film to the glass and a fine scalpul blade to cut the film around the edges. Spray the back of the film too it'll give a sloppy non grip surface so you don't smash it or scratch it with the plastic thing.


Don't do it in the sun, I had 1 chill side and a hot side had to cook the hot side and do it a second time.

On curved glass put the film on the outside but in the same direction so the inside will fit inside of you get me. Then tape it round the edges, then wet it and draw a cross that sticks to the glass and then the fingers can be drawn out with a hair dryer like vinyl wrap I guess.

I haven't done it yet but I'll report back

Talk about arse about face.

So noisy clutch bearing was annoying me, also the engine seemed a little hesitant when cold and strange power delivery through the revs.
I bought a complete luk dmf clutch kit for the van.

So got it in the lair and front wheels up on ramps plus school.

Gearbox back enough to get my head into the gap between the engine and box while sitting on the floor. Not dodgy at all

I expected to see where the oil drip was coming from. Assuming inside the box and a leaking engine oil seal. I have a new seal to hand. Looks inside the box/engine but no oil really apart from what had found it's way in.

Spotted the fitted clutch was solid flywheel. Van has done 99k miles and it would have had dmf from the factory. Hope many miles does a dmf last for?

Anyway I've fitted the new seal. Looked at the gearbox oil seal and it looks ok but decided to order from ebay.

Still non the wiser about the oil leak but can just see it's up top. At the back no doubt. I've done the rocker cover so it can only be the cam carrier seal or a cracked cam carrier.
So I'm taking the engine out f*** it. Partial strip down and rebuild me thinks.
Ordered a spigot bearing removal tool too.

Long term I am compelled to get a 3.2 engine and want to fit a ranger auto gearbox to the van.

I had a slight issue with my old RWD - a bit extreme but I had a (bad) diesel leak on the back of the PRV and it was putting enough diesel out to make the clutch slip. (It was okay again once I had fixed it) but are you sure your oil leak isn't a diesel leak?

Well!

So i got the box detached, and low and behold despite oil dripping from it from the seam, it was none dry. I could see above there was loads of oil around the cam carrier seal so I took the decision to take the engine out completely and rebuild it.

I found the thrust bearing seemed quiet on the vehicle. So I wondered if it was the gearbox. I wobbled the input shaft and it felt a bit loose and I thought the gearbox sounded loud so my mind was set.

Took the engine out using my roof girdir and block n tackle and plonked it into my garden table to work on.

So I removed the ancillaries and egr plumbing etc then the timing cover and cylinder head etc.

Partial head gasket set and i replaced all of the valve stem oil seals. Egr and turbo gaskets, toning kit and cover, injector seals and bolts etc.

Would like to test the injectors I've got and 10 of them I really should have done a leak off test before starting all of this. But it is what it is.

I used to get a whiff of smoke on startup which left, and a power band in mid range, but that may well have been the fact that the turbo was apparently stuck since the rod was getting to come off and wedged on the body.

But I've done a head rebuild and I'm glad it's done. Got a look at the poison bores and there was no wear at all for its age. Timing chain guides were worn but the chain compared identical to the new 1 with no stretch or bend.

Also replaced the scv for a laugh, also could have been the turbo throwing it off as the rev range was not consistent.

Genuine denso from China made in Japan £12 I've got a fire extinguisher on hand


Ordered a 2.2 euro 5 mt82 gearbox from ebay, 42k miles, looked the best externally and clean, most are jetwashed and covered in oil etc. This has the not in neutral sensor it showed the wiring loom in the ad. But the seller took the loom, it also has the gear selector arm broken off, I can use mine but still not happy, plus the thrust bearing feels knackered which ok is possible on the first clutch but possibly the box has done many more miles, I just hope I don't fit it and it is crunchy and poop. I will send it back!

Anyway I've been doing other things so I'm on and off this job.

Update. So the engine is all back in, £12 scv is suspect at the moment de it only ran after a while but not for long and won't start now.

That’s a solid method, especially using tape for alignment and a slip solution to control positioning. The curved glass technique with heat is very similar to professional vinyl wrap work and usually helps achieve a cleaner finish when done carefully.

Proper surface prep and avoiding direct sunlight during installation are key, so your point about working in different temperatures is spot on.

So the new gearbox is back in with the rebuilt engine, I've stuck the ply floor in the back and then carpet then installed the rear bench seat. Took it for a drive and it is mint, quiet, tight and smooth. No oil leak visible either. Suspect a faulty injector though so I'll do a leak off test and replace.
Also painted the silver grill black.
Jury service for 2 weeks now though
