hehehe crank pulley off, timing cover off. huge shyte cam gear off (quaife steel gear on order£££ ).

just need Tony Mobilevanman and his magic impact screwdriver then i can swap over camshaft for the happy cam i got!

looking forward to piecing the old girl back together and it up on the pallet!

not long now really, could potentially be in one piece by next weekend!!!

guess its ok to watch gezza kyle n look at all web except this forum, but not get oily n be productive!

whilst "hanging out washing" earlier i managed to get cam gear off. didnt wanna budge but an old kitchen knife and a scraper behind it and some gentle persuasion from an archaeological type hammers spike did the job.

Tony popped by and sorted cam thrust plate screws... nice lump hammer and an impact driver shifted whats stayed put for some 30 years!

just gotta work out how to extract old camshaft to fit new; its in there good! spins but reluctant to exit its home!

tomo be ordering the steel timing gear ! its huge bout 9 inch in diameter lol n £148 from burton power!

Right well camshaft pulled free easy with a twist and spin, front bearings bigger than centre. this is in turn bigger than rear one so swappin was a doddle!
i used a bumper bracket and the fuel pump cam as a spacer on the end of old camshaft...


this 2 screw plate needed impact driver on it so luckily i know a guy...



it holds camshaft in place, then the sprocket pulls it forward slightly apparently! Sprocket looks brand new teeth are immaculate ...for sale £50 IF WANTED PLUS POSTAGE!


These followers came with the new camshaft. fitted after i fitted the shaft. just make sure the windows are facing front to back so the oil can pass thru em as its fired sideways thru the holes across follower tubes!



All fitted awaiting uprated steel cam sprocket, ordered n paid for from Burton Power in Ilford


Also fitted new front and rear oil seals but think front one will need a few slaps more to get in fully home.

well thats all i can do til the sprocket comes...

Also won 3 used oil pumps for essex v4/v6 so if anyone wants a spare for like £5 let me know i wont need 3 ! just lookin for my money back no profit!

I seriously doubt it'll be in for the 'mania simply cos even if i got it all running tomo i would still need to borrow an engine hoist or 4 blokes and even if i had one i would need an exhaust system for the n/s head... also mounts and adaptor plate and clutch etc oh and a carb!


that said i also cleaned up the heads today, only the "mating faces" so to speak ie the gasket faces for inlet exhaust and the cylinder head gasket face. bit of elbow grease and some 180 grit emery came up good.! forgot to take before n after pix!

Today, after meeting jonno and PUK a nice man delivered this ...50p for size reference!



fitted it, refitted timing cover and fought to get sump back on. the engine stand was just catching the sump so i ground s slither off the bracket of the stand. 3mm later and sump fitted up too!

Well more joy arrived today. some shiny stainless steel bolts also fitted heads loosely so i could slip push rods in place then tightened em down just a tad by hand til i torque em up in 3 stages!
looks like ill have to paint the heads now too
