The van, you filthy minded...

Oh you... keep going and your bottom will be all red even without the paint    :P

Back to Lola... I've been playing with an idea of having nice daylight running lights. I don't want them cut into the bumper, I like the audi style better. And since my replacement panel didn't turn up yet, here is what I've been playing with :D

Just not sure about the lenght now. I might try to fit the longer strip in so it's all the way from one side to another, what do you think? :? Ooooh, and need AlanN's butt here to wire it up now

Yup, that's the plan. I think AlanN has got an evil plan for how to do that already (ehm, ehm... ).

If you mean picture of me fitting them onto Lola - they are not fitted to Lola yet, these are the spare ones I play with

If you mean me fitting the LEDs into the headlamps - you don't want to see that, it'll give you nightmares Alex  There was loads of swearing involved, injury and some unindentified flying objects too...

   It MIGHT be more entertaining for some...

I did receive my longer strips and couldn't decide which ones I like more. Soooo... I need some advice and opinions please (yeah the brute ones too :P   ). I couldn't see properly what it looks like on a single headlamp, so had a little play with double sided tape yesterday to see what the lights would look like on Lola  Here we go:

1: short strip LED (that's just a bit of duct tape on that plastic underneath the headlamp  )
Image

2. long strip

3. then the playing started - mean L shapes

4. Kind L shape

5. Then I just lost it and released the green fairy

Juuuust a joooooke, don't throw the comp away yet :!:

So which one :?: :D

Yes, that could be nice, but if you look at your headlamp, there is no internal lip to attach the lights to  There is only very thin lip up there, so the lights would be virtually under the bonnet there :(

Life is never boring for a MK5 owner  Lola had some jobs to do this week, but she decided that being a good girl is not an option and she deserves some more time off... Do you remember how her first engine died last year? Here is a little reminder:

Image

The alternator mounting bolt had snapped, went all the way thru the mounting hole and the nut with the washer drilled a hole into the oil filter as the alternator was shaking. Here is the "killer" bolt from last year:

Image

You can see that the head is missing and the bolt itself went thru some abuse before it was finally fed up. Well guess what...?

Driving along Greenford, back to work after deliveries, my battery light comes on  Then the steering starts to feel hard and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa NO BRAKES servo   Glad I had my thick pants on :!: :x :x Looking under the bonnet, both belts are gone to the belt heaven...  Well since I didn't have any tights on and no spanners in the boot, I decided to finish the short journey to work, my eyes stuck on water temperature, both feet on the brake pedal and finger stuck up my... well I'm sure you can picture the hell I went thru... :(

But - luckily we survived, no road kills, nor pernament damage to the pants, went to buy new belts and hurrrayyy out comes my spanners again. :D I won't go into details, but some swearing was involved again, since the new alternator belt just could not-would not get on :!:  I ended up taking off the whole front of the van, trying to find a reason and also trying to figure out why the belt has snapped so soon :!: And here is what I found... mounting bolt number TWO

Image

yeah :!: This one snapped too. On the other end :!:    silly little things :!:

Image

Taking the sleeve in the alternator with it  Here is what it should look like:

Image

And here is what mine looks like now

Image

I don't know why it happens, but having it twice in such a short time (on two different engines - bear in mind), I can't understand it... Received some great advice from gurus of the forum (thank you very much Image ) and then I put MinorMatts solution into place:

Image
Image

I don't know what is that thing called... Luckily there is very understanding salesman in the hire shop round the corner (I think he can read minds  )... I said I need "the steel stick thing with threads about 13cm long, 8mm thick" , he just looked at me and knew immediately what I was after...  He gave me four matching nuts too to lock the alternator in place     I cut "the steel thing" to size, made sure everything fits and voa laaaa, borrowed alternator is on and it doesn't move at all

Image
Image

Have to sort out the sleeve for my alternator now, and then swap them again  Now I'm going to have a fight with the PAS belt, it just seems short too     Will update you again soon
