I wouldnt worry about it vibrating when jacked up, most RWD vehicles will do it without any load on

thats good to know it's not really the sort of thing ive ever done before i'm feeling happier now

i think thats what i'll do cut em and fit a pipe in between and weld back up - then eventually make some new ones

spring hangers are back off now ready for modding (only a little job) and all being well back on tomorrow and i'll at least have the handbrake working

my bmw318 did the same, jacked it up put it in 5th, and floored it, thought id broken something it was vibrating that much

yes adjustable made em that way so when i lower the back i can adjust them longer or shorter to fit back on

so far with these ive cut them and put a small pipe inside - i've got them on the van - i'll clamp them and tack them up - remove and fully weld i would have been done tonight but it started raining

also modded the spring hangers they are back on but still not piped up the calipers

and the max clearence - this is with the outer pad missing so in reality with a fully worn pad it will never get this close

this was how i lengthened the tramp bars - i made the clamps from 1" angle with a bit of flat welded on - inside is a bit more pipe - its now tacked together on the van and i'll remove them and fully weld up



just shows how much movement there is no wonder they wouldnt fit

Luke, bit off track...but seeing how your doing so well...

..Do you reckon it would be feasible to mount a large machined spacer behind the hub permanently attached to it by new longer press fitted studs, and then mount a flat disc to tapped bolt holes in this new spacer? - It would buy extra wheel clearance room but hub bearings would need reassembly every time you needed a new disc, but then you could use standard el cheapo discs?? Think longer press fitted studs are a potential weak point?

Cheers!! - I'm still trying for Mk5 Twin wheel 6 stud discs and theres no way any disc will fit conventionally!!

do you mean on a 6 stud? cos i'm not really up on the 6 stud ones mate but sounds a plan - if you want start a thread put some pics up and we could mabe come up with some ideas (i like a challange) if the studs are supported you shouldnt have a problem if the hub is holding them and you only have the shear on the disk at one side and the wheel at the other

back to progress

fully welded the bars got them fitted back on - took the van for a spin booted it and it did seem better i dont know if it's psycological or this LSD working its magic but time will tell

but i've had an intermittent problem with the n/s front caliper dragging but on the run it got so bad the van wouldnt even freewheel down hill got back and took the caliper off but it was free (cyls easly pushed back) but i put another caliper on just incase and it but it was the same so i think it might be the flexihose iveordered a new one should get thet early next week, but i also got a slight leak of fluid between the master and the servo - it was proberbly as i'd been pushing hard on the pedal to bleed the system but i'll keep an eye on that for future problems

That leak was the first signs that my master cylinder was on the way out, Im sure there are a few MK2 master cylinders on fleebay at the moment, Im sure youve got a spare anyway

i dont think ive got a spare master but i was thinking of 'upgrading' to a mk6 servo and master cyl like geoff did
