The journey of my MK6 (Day van conversion)

The rear seats, well in fact, all 5 seats, are from a Renault Megane Scenic. They are from the Monaco edition, which means they are extra bolstered and trimmed in grey leather.

I actually have 2 rear benches, my other bench lives in my garage as a sofa/seating, and then bolts into the van if I am doing an airport run, making it an 8 seater.


The seats are built onto a box-section frame each. The set that are currently in, are simply bolted through the floor with spreader plates underneath. 4 M10 bolts holding it down.

The spare set bolt into riv-nuts which are fitted into the metal floor beneath the wood, and screw down with M8 thumb-bolts (Kinda like wing nuts, but a bolt instead).

All seatbelts are attached to the frames of the seats.

Do you mean the spreader plates are underneath the van, ie outside, or is the plate just on top of the metal floor but under the wood?

Had a crash today. Was T-Boned by a Romanian Artic lorry, insurance isn't looking great either. Police were called etc.


Anyway, £300 recovery and vehicle release fees later (Not my choice, police arranged it), van is back at my house (After having to pay ANOTHER recover firm to collect it from the compound it was taken to).

They put it on the road outside, I need it off the road as TAX runs out next month. So put my snow wheels on to get it moved.


Damage - Not great.

Snapped axle, damage to Sill, side bar, sliding door, and rear 1/4
It's also twatted the O/S wheel, sill etc from where I hit the central reservation.








If the worst does happen and insurance don't want to fight/pay out, then I am totting up repair bill.

Will need a rear axle, and a side loading door as a minimum.

That's a gutter mate hope you told insurance about alloys cause they pests do anything to get out of paying out! If they want to write it off they may sell you the van back for penny's mate 2-300 quid at most and it gets take. Off your settlement figure so not out your own pocket

sorry i knew the fronts are redrills - (those are what i looked to copy) but i thought the backs were on adapters

Shame to see this, pretty sure they will write it off as the financial cost to repair correctly will be more than its worth.

What do you think you will do now?

Not sure what to do. If the claim cant be settled with the lorry driver, then I guess I will have to repair it and just keep running it, as I cant afford to just buy another one. We're 75% through saving for a house deposit, this sh*t couldn't have happened at a worse time.

I've been speaking to a solicitors who are going to put together a case, and see what they can do for me. Woke up this morning feeling like sh*t, then got up, looked out of the window, and saw the van. Meh!

Rear axles range from £80 to £150. I'd like to go over to a Mk7 rear beam with discs, but it will mean getting the hubs re-drilled again.

Also tempted to just put the re-drilled 5x120 hubs up for sale / for standard hubs and wheels.
Chuck an axle on it, and then as and when I can, get a side loading door.

My issue is, I can't get a hire car because it's a foreign lorry. And I don't have any transport now either. I've got the SJ, but that's no good for commuting as it's an modified off-road vehicle. Tops out at 50mph, and returns bugger all MPG.

can you not just fit a standard axle on then swap over the actual hub thats redrilled - worst case you'd need 1 hub redrilling

ive seen mk6 rear axles for £20-£30 last one i bought was £30
