well after getting a couple of hours at it today i got her fired up! i wanted to hear the lump running before i fitted anything else up. all seems good so its full steam ahead now!

first i got the pipes routed back to be connected to the tank. i took the tank out of the mk2 di scrapper and was amazed by how much smaller it was than the tank in mine. so i just swapped over the gauge unit over into my own tank so id have the return pipe catered for and refitted the tank.



i just ran a couple of loose wires to the solenoid valve and starter solenoid and after a lot of turning and bleeding i got some noise!!

ya, she seems well sweet, pump seems good, idled perfect soon as it started etc. not exactly quiet same as any of them!!! couple of sheets of dynamat will be in order id say!!!

i was thinking bout goin the whole hog on this job, strip the bay fully, paint it, strip block and paint it etc but at the end of the day it will very much be a working van for the summer going to various events so i think tidy, presentable and more importantly reliable will be good enough for me. the trouble with detailing is you never know when to stop!!!

The old XE is an ace engine, oddly I have a few hidden in the garage including a dry-sumped motor out of a circuit racer 'hot-rod' and am slowly fitting one into an mg midget........... ongoing project for 6 years

as to the DI Turbo, it seems that nobody uses the epic system for conversions? can the mec. bosch pump set-up produce the same (or more) power

thats where a lot of the time was involved in that build, everythings hidden, brake fluid resevoir inside bulkhead, coilpack is mounted under carbs with longer plugleads etc, main loom runs under wings, bonnet pull cable is even re routed under the right wing using a longer TRANSIT cable!!! does be good fun at shows sometimes when fellas ask when im goin to finish it under the bonnet so it will run!!

with the pump turned up they make more power in a lot of cases or so im told anyway plus it simplifies things a lot in a conversion like this. the pump had actually been fitted to this engine when it was in the mk5 it came out of. the epic system seems to be troublesome and most seem to solve the problem by fitting the mech pump.

I want to hide the loom in my van bay, not all of it, but as much as I can, Id like to hear any tips you've got... Already lengthened the V6 injection loom to go up under the scuttle panel, thought about covering it with stainless Brade, but fancy that...

nice bit of progress since my last post, got the wiring done for the new engine which was simple enough. i had to strip down the engine loom and peel off the leccy ignition section and extend the rest of the wires to reach.

also started fitting/sizing up the rad and hoses.








the list of jobs are getting smaller by the day, nearly there!!
