Now I had welded the head of the Scorpio steering colomn onto the Mk1 outershaft. Still it would be very comfortable if the steering wheel could come a little closer to the driver. This would give more distance between the steering wheel and dashboard too. Luckily I had a spare
steering box and shaft from the Mk1 I had scrapped. I decided to lenghten both the innershaft and the outershaft with 4 inches(10 cm) of material taken from the spare box.
I cut both innershafts and tapered them with a grinder. Then I welded the V-shaped joint, grounded down the weld and welded it again. For extra strength I also welded up a sleeve to the shaft at the spot of the joint. This 'sleeve' is originaly screwed to the shaft and acts as the steering lock. It is no longer needed, since I have the Scorpio steering lock now.

Now I removed the bracket from the lenghtened outershaft and welded it back on 4 inches lower down. So here's the altered outershaft:

Now finally, all was ready to bolt the dash in for the last time. I still have to finish it, but sofar the result is pretty satisfying. All the original Scorpio switches, stalks and lights work. I only had to put the throttle pedal a tad more towards the brake pedal and place it at a slighlty different angle for comfort. I used a stainless gardenfence hinge as a base fo the
pedal, like this:


And here is how the dash looks. Like I said I have still some finishing to do. You will also notice that the dash is not wide enough for the MK1, but that was very handy after all, because the main fusebox sits in that space on the passenger side:

Scorpio stalks are a bit short compared to the large Mk1 wheel, but I can live with that.

Lengthening it with 55cm ( like I said they had to use a thicker/wider tube), including balancing cost me 150 euro. Without a bill that is, if you know what I mean.
