Now I had welded the head of the Scorpio steering colomn onto the Mk1 outershaft. Still it would be very comfortable if the steering wheel could come a little closer to the driver. This would give more distance between the steering wheel and dashboard too. Luckily I had a spare
steering box and shaft from the Mk1 I had scrapped. I decided to lenghten both the innershaft and the outershaft with 4 inches(10 cm) of material taken from the spare box.
I cut both innershafts and tapered them with a grinder. Then I welded the V-shaped joint, grounded down the weld and welded it again. For extra strength I also welded up a sleeve to the shaft at the spot of the joint. This 'sleeve' is originaly screwed to the shaft and acts as the steering lock. It is no longer needed, since I have the Scorpio steering lock now.

Now I removed the bracket from the lenghtened outershaft and welded it back on 4 inches lower down. So here's the altered outershaft:
