Mk6 Re-paint, Rustoleum.

thanks guys, im in the process of sanding the whole van down to a smooth again, you are right, i was worried about it running like water so it was probably thicker than it needed to be, however it was mixed to the ratio stated on the tin (Rustoleum 10% thinners to paint)
the compressor and 'tools' are just B&Q ones, 8bar with 2.5L tank, and a gun with a paint tank on top of it, i have one with the paint holder on the bottom of gun, does it make a difference? my neighbour is a fitter for Manitou and has a beast of a compressor he said i can have a shot of.

im hoping to have another motor on the go soon so that will give me a better chance to finish this van. as its in daily use so hard to get anything done.

i prefer gravity feed gun mate (pot on top) specially if you only have low pressure ..it must have cost loads to do all this mate.... would it not have been more economical to have had it done at a painters?

anyone can pay someone to paint a van, i think its much better when its done by the owner, like sending a van away to get it converted into a camper van, its just not the same in my eyes. I think to date, materials wise i have bought 3x2.5L of paint, and about 10litres of white spirit(mostly to clean gun out ) and a tub of thinners. i already had an abundence of sand paper and masking tape.

no-one could pay me enough to rub my fingers down to the knuckle like yours must be at times mate all the best with it mate hope you get it right you deserve it with all that persy verance

we never progress mate..we think we got to the end of summat,,then we start all over again.. even on our final days we wonder what we achieved melancholy tuesday today m8

right buddy the compressor is no where big enough to keep up with a spray gun
i have a 100 litre twi piston compressor that i use for painting and its running about 75 % of the time to keep up with the gun
i use a devilbiss gti but i have a cheap sealey one aswell cost about 25 which is ok to use

now on to the gun do you have a link to it or a photo of it please so i can try and talk you through the set up of it

if you were closer id show you but all i can maybe say is try youtube, theres prob loads of how too's on there

id say just go with 2k, but if your paranoid go with celly, but every black needs a flat and polish its a c*** of a colour

firstly though id say looking at the shrinkage your filler work neads more work/primer and flatting.


its all in the prep, and make sure you panel wipe it clean just before paint

i bought this a week or so ago as i couldnt have the van off the road for more than a few hours, ill maybe end up just selling the mk6 as i really dont have the time now its coming into winter and getting darker and colder.

there is a little more to it than just buying a new van just because,
my uncle died before last christmas and only the last couple of months we have started to fix up his house (it was looking dated) so the bought the van for me as i refused to take payment for working for my family.
