No the mot ran out about 3 weeks after i bought it. Im hoping that structually its good, seems to look ok, but im not looking too hard as i might give up !!!

You got a lot more to do than me, im hoping just for a bit of filler and coat of paint on the cab. Your interior does look the same as mine, waht plans have you got for lining the walls?

Finally some nice weather on Sunday, ideal for those roof sealing tasks.

As i said previously i needed to seal the join between the alu roof and the fibreglass roof. I got a flap wheel on the grinder and removed all the old resin deposits and rubbed down the roof ready for the stick on flashing i bought.

Image

It was easy to apply just peel the backing off and stick, rolling it as you went with a wallpaper seam roller, perfect!

Next was the old flue for the Electrolux heater.

Image

Again i used the leisure battery box of the carvan and cut a section out to patch over the hole.

Image

Stuck that down with mastic.

Image

I decided the gas boiler flue i did last week would be better sealed for the future with the stick on flashing, and i will do the same with the other patch next week.

Image

The rest of my time was dismantling the caravan, ive got the gally out now and the overhead lockers and got the thetford toilet out. you can see that the caravan was really damp on the back wall and when i pulled the wall lining it looked just like the camper when i started...Rotten

Cheers Mark, ive no plans to keep the Travelhome, but it would be nice to able to use it a couple of times before it goes. Its not about the destination but the journey there!! Lol.
Its becoming a bit of a drug now as it gives me highs and lows, big ideas then the reality of trying to get it all to fit.

There is only one van i would sell my mk2 for and thats my old Jennings

I got myself one last year, had the usual problems of the front panel of the cab being rotten and leaks thru vent in bathroom but generally on the whole pretty tidy. Got it reupholsered, fully serviced with a 95amp alternator from a granada to charge three batteries, usual, stereo and leisure with a split charging system, then went nuts and it had all new electrics and gas fittings, henry water heater (fits real nice in the back cupboard nearest the door) and a second hand thetford electric flushing toilet (looks like one in your caravan) new water pump, hoses, shower, tip up sink, carpets, curtains, head unit, two amps, four six by nines, two kickers in the front door, sub under the seat and a powercap. Been great for festivals. Bodywork is in great nick, its an 81. Fridge ices up fast, heater works, hob and grill work perfectly too. And its great to open those huge glass windows instead of sitting behind smoked brown glass.Only needed petrol pump and brake hose on last mot a couple of months ago. I now have a problem where it is running lumpy under load but revs freely when in neutral. (I have put a comment on the board under two litre petrol pinto engine prob mk 2 ci if anyone can help). Spent far too much on it but fully intend to have it for years so should recoup some of the cost. I am a technical pleb so its mostly mates helping out at mates rates or people who owe me favours. Plenty of room in it to 'have your mates round' too. You have done some awesome work on there, look forward to seeing more progress. Good luck!

that's one good job keep it up!! mine's from 83 and i got it for little more money, pretty perfect though, usual little faults you can expect from a 23 year old van, recently got a gas leak though.. anyway i envy your perseverance, i'd love to carry out a project like that but don't have the time or the patience! looking forward to the finished pics! :D :D

Made a start on lining some of the walls and floor today in between the showers.

As i have been stripping out the caravan it has become obvious that i will need to build the walls for the toilet and wardrobe as the caravan stuff is the wrong size and shape. so i need to trial fit the Thetford toilet and cut a hole in the side for the cassette door.

i need therefore to ply line the floor and walls where the washroom will go.
First job was to ply the floor with 6mm plywood as the floor is covered in old glue residue and will always be uneven, then i need to cut to shape the panel for the window wall.

Image

You can see from the strip sitting on top that the rear wall was 70mm out from top to bottom. I used some card to use as a template for the curve and then cut the window hole out.

I positioned the toilet in place and drew around the inside to get the marks for the aperture and cut the interior lining.

Image

Image

I then made a template up from the cassette door to cut out the exterior as it needs to be bigger to sit the lip of the door in.

Image

Ill cut out and fit door tomorrow, then have a go at lining the galley area
