spent all day messing with bits of metal to make an adaptor to fit my chrome 14" cleaner on my dgas.
was a fkin cnut of a job in rain with no proper tools , its rough as fk , but it seems to work so im happy til i can get to Tim, so he can shake his magic welder at it!

not gonna show pix of the adaptor, simply cos its ugly as sin, but it does at least stay in place!

so here is my now nearly fully fitted air cleaner!!

Another job off the list... nearly... just need to make a few clips uo to hold lid on cos im not gonna bolt it will clip instead!

well i just got back from a trip up to clackton in the old girl. on way up last night i left with 3/4 tank of fuel, sat at 65/70 got up there gauge read 1/2 full.

whilst i was able to today, i re sealed the leaking exhaust gaskets with that fire putty stuff as the stuff done at transitmania had finally let go... was a lovely QUIET drive home, could hear the note rather than the rasp!

I also as a temporary measure tin foil wrapped the fuel lines to help shield from heat. also wrapped the fuel pump and the manifold on that side.

I got 20 foot of 5/16" fuel hose im gonna run new flow and return from tank to carb, but better route than the orig derv lines take, as i broke down in traffic other day, fuel starved pump-the sound tells all-air no fuel from tank... so i ended up finding a blocked fuel return thus pump couldn't do its job...swapped lines round to pump and from carb, sorted that issue but it highlighted fact that the derv lines are plastic, prob kinked and and almost certainly melted a tad as only 3" away from literally red hot manifolds. im gonna move the pump too as it could happily sit up on the chassis rails or near fuel tank

Also removed the rubber seal strip from the top lip where the bonnet seals. bonnet vents sorted!

drive home was defo a nice relaxing drive as its still only like the 6th time ive driven with the v6 in... had a few teething issues and admittedly i was shitting it a bit driving up to clackton (on my own with phone as sat nav) so the relaxing drive home at 75/80 was a damn sight better.

things i learnt so far re the v6

i need to get a better oil filler cap with breather and (most likely) seal the dip stick tube... after a er "spritely" drive the other day i found it pissed oil all over the n/s wing ish area next to engine, guess the fans blew the spray backwards. the dipstick says i didnt really actually loose much, but it sure went a long way  (remember my pinto - oil up rear doors on a13 when rocker gasket blew out  ) although it only seems to do it way way above 70

fuel lines need re routing for certain, and replacing too so i can choose the route

new air filter looks lovely and sounds/works great too

plenty of torque under boot

nice pop from exhaust as you turn off after a long drive  ( looks the nuts at night 8) )

if i drive at 65/70 i get bout same fuel return as the Di that used to be in it. as with the Di go over 3250rpm and she guzzles petrol quite nicely.

really sounds great above 4000 rpm full throttle, (book says 155bhp@5500rpm )

new clutch fork needed- with my driving style and the fact its seen 3+ engines now its time to change it- the block on the end is goosed so when it feels like it you cant fully actuate the clutch properly so getting first gear is a slag- usually at the most inconvenient of times like at m25 roundabouts etc

new brake discs thanks to Andy G, new pads to come soon and be fitted.should make stopping better.
triple rear seat and windows to be fitted, bulkhead to be moved back 3foot ish . got some jobs for the winter if its not too cold!

off for a cuppa and cig now

this and the insurance claim form i just filled out i got carpel tunnel.... might have to sue for that too

Yup I sure am glad I wrapped it and shielded the Di hose under some shield !
Is it likely steel manifolds would also get red hot too or would they pass the heat out exhaust better?

Can tell you that the heat showing through is not a good idea Rob.Obviously there is a thinner area ,or bad wrap where the heat is getting through. As your engine gets so hot I would be concerned that the fibre may burn and catch fire around those areas of wrap.I would wrap a second layer around it all and spray with water as you are doing it.This tightens the wrap as it gets hot.Use plenty of ss ties as well.G Force is a good quality wrap.

gonna try steel manifolds- these are cast iron, sooo much metal on em they just retain too much and act like storage heaters.
hoping that steel ones will simply pass the heat on, even if they get red hot, there will physically be less metal which is hot, which should in turn still be tonnes cooler.
perhaps mixture might also be playing a part, but i suspect tis mainly the fact that the cast ones simply retainn to much as so thick!

Have you removed the heat/soundproofing from the underside of your bonnet mate?

Might help with heat dissipation.
