when he chipped away at the floor he found serious rot around the seat mounts and a BIG hole under the chassis its basically falling apart :x :x

I see people here buying Mk5's on ebay for only a couple of hunderd pounds. Seems that you can easily find a new shell on the island. Go for it and finish your project. As said before you spent way to much time and effort to just drop the whole thing or to put it on ice for a while (as putting it on ice for a while mostly means; THE END).

Hasn't anybody on the forum got a shell for him? Or knows somebody who can hook him up with one?
