Hi hear is pics of Taz our 6 berth motorhome sad name i know He could do with a turbo 55 is flat out but there is a lot of weight and not very aero dynamic

I put the radiator and aux belt back on once the cover was off and ran the engine to confirm it was definitely coming from there.

Spent the whole of today doing wiring:
New heater resistor
Stereo
Nokia Bluetooth car kit
Autoleads speaker cut out for car kit (uses your cars speakers instead of the single Nokia supplied one)
Alarm system
Auxiliary Lights
Reversing camera screen
RDS Traffic antenna for the Satnav

Took 2 new ways out of the fusebox, used the heated rear screen and the electric windows fuseways, one is permanent live and one is switched live for all the auxiliary equipment.

Hundreds of crimps and cable ties later, it still looks like a rat's nest...

I've also started working out which core does what for the rear lights.

A panel van loom splits the signals and sends them down either side of the van but the chassis cab runs one separate. I've already re-wired the camper to run a trailer gauge Euro - 13 core right to the back to run all the lights and trailer socket and fridge / split charge etc.

The main issue is that the Mk5 loom seems to be a lot smaller gauge conductors and i'm wondering whether they'll take the current draw of the trailer etc. as well so i'm going to have to work out the core gauges and wattages of the lamps etc.

How does trailer socket wiring normally work on a Mk5 panel van? Is it just a splice into the rear lamps or is there a pukka relay box etc?

What about the trailer telltale? What drives that?

I wired my spec lift ok..i found the mk5 wires and what they did i joined the rear lights together and ran the wires from the passenger side(only 2 wires left indicator and rear light)to drivers side as my spec wires came up the offside but in the engine bay(I drilled a hole for the wires to come through)I have had no problems and i got roof lights at the back including side lights and several roof lights and so far havent blown any fuses or melted wires even when i had to tow my caravan which has several marker lights as well...A little note my side marker lights and roof light bulbs are all led but the rear lights and caravan are normal bulbs.

I've run that section of the loom up the passenger side windscreen pillar with the interior lamp and PATS led (same section of loom) and back down the driver's side pillar, so they're all in the right place now.

Tried to follow the TIS wiring diagrams but by the time you've traced 4 different B&W diagrams in 6 variations it's easier to use the multimeter and press buttons to work out what does what!

i did just that with a test bulb and just turned things on and wrote down what each wire did.then did the same with rear lights

Right, all the lights are now wired up and working.
The stereo mutes with the car kit.
I have wasted a load of time trying to sort the instrument cluster back out as it has lost some of the lamps.

And the dash is virtually in, just the instrument cluster and related plastics to go and it's finished.



Still to do:

Re-trim the carpet in the cab
Fit the seats
Wire in the front fogs and the auxiliary side markers.
New water pump / timing belt

Then i'm re-doing the bathroom as a full shower room among other projects.

Did some re-trimming today.

The floor in the cab should be well soundproofed as it has been roof flashed, has the original mk3 mat, a layer of 10mm foam, the mk5 mat and a carpet over it!

Then I went and finished off the dash, all lamps are now working correctly and all the trim is in.
I have changed the floor bolts for the seat also so they are captive and come through the floor as studs, this means the seats can be unbolted without going underneath and using an assistant. (camper has non-standard subframes and Renault Espace swivel seats fitted)

Dash and seats in, carpet and pillar trims to fit tomorrow and then on to the waterpump / timing belt issue..
