Best not have an auto then. I would have fitted the spare cable we always carry.

My autobox has given plenty of notice that it wishes to retire (75,000miles apparently is what an A4lde will do in a Transit turbo diesel van)

Mine is on 83,000miles and is unfortunatly fading in so far as the overdrive band is slipping (due to Ford's not putting the correct piston and servo cover on, before it left the factory  )
Very very easy mod. done in about 10 mins :o (external job :D )
The debris from the band is swimming in the oil and has made the valve block a bit sticky which sometimes delays the gear selection and will eventually cause the clutches to 'burn' as the engagement is sometimes delayed then suddenly kicks in while the engine is at a higher rev than should be :(
So the box could have gone on for much longer
It's still going and despite the fault/s still got me to Billing and back without a problem :D
The faults only really showed up after the engine output went up  8)

Box on standby :D Just trying to organise a good ramp and transmission jack to do the job :D And no I can't trust just anybody to do it  :( passed experiences will not allow me :( So it's sleeves up :D

you want something to take the weight of the heavy auto box   weighs more than a di i think   good old mt75 8)
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Well I just been down the weighbridge with some scrap, as well as all my tools/compressor/wooden cabinet full of spares and greases etc, and looking at the kerb weight of my van I run around every day with 796Kg on board   Never realised I was so close to my limit

So from that I presume yours is the little baby 80 then :?:

When looking for a SWB low roof automatic there was more 80s and 100s around than 120s or 150s (by that I mean you could still count them on one hand  )
Having got weighed in my old 120 (I also added a TV to the front passenger seat which does happen from time to time) it came in at just under 1000kg
So that ruled out the 80 completely :!:

And Rover, you haven't got to worry too much about your box as it's the better all mechaniclly controlled full oil pressure type :!:

I have to be honest, when I bought my van I went for whatever was available and didnt imagine I was gona carry the kind of weight I do, in fact until yesterday I was sure I normally carried about 500Kg fully loaded :? but thinking about it now it does take two people just to drag the compressor around, and four to lift it out of the van..... I suppose that should have told me something

Time to look for a back axle and some triple leaf springs now it seems!!

Well before Billing I decided to rearrange where stuff goes in the van to give me more room, so now the compressor and cabinet full of stuff are on the same side, which is fine until I put all my toolboxes and 3 tonne jack in, then it seems to drive a little lob sided, I would like to put a wider Mk4/5 axle on anyway to get the wheels out to the edges of the arches, so if I do that I might as well get the heavier springs too.

Rover.

PS... Sorry for hijacking your thread Luke

Just fitted a new heater matrix, what with winter on its way :(

i removed the complete heater box and changed the matrix off the van, but having done it i suspect it could have been done on the van, just by unclipping the front :? half the hassle
