ive the propshaft sent away for shortening and balancing. im using the complete swb mk5 prop with the rear section shortened and have to make a pickup bracket for the mk5 carrier. would have been easier to use the rear half of the mk2 and mod the front section but the mk2 uj,s are a lot smaller. i think the full mk5 setup ill be a better job considering how much towing the van does.

soon as it comes back ill be away for a spin!!! :D

i think it will be a great towing van ,when i had the 85ps turbo mk5 it towed so well ,so the 100ps should pull lovely and still give good mpg!

i took the tank out of the mk2 di scrapper and was amazed by how much smaller it was than the tank in mine. so i just swapped over the gauge unit over into my own tank so id have the return pipe catered for and refitted the tank.

Image

My van has got the small tank, i was wondering if there was any particular model that had the larger tank and bottom outlet like yours i should be looking out for, so i can swap. I was under the impression that all short wheelbased vans had the small tank?

normaly transit swb had the small tank and the lwb had the 68ltr tank,i dont think it was a option to have the 68ltr on a swb but i am not 100% shure ! :?

I had a mk1 shortwheel base camper and i could get over 60 quid of fuel in that and that was nearly 10 years ago, so that must have had a larger tank in it. It must have been an option. The Mk1 was a 2.0 V4.

ive been away from this project for the last few days working. so i got stuck in again this evening.

after more thought about what to do with the gearlever gaitor i decided to fit the mk5 gaitor and retaining piece. it was tempting to fit the floor section from the mk5 section as luke recommended but seeing as my floor mat is in mint nick i left my own floor in place and went a different way bout it.

i got the mk5 plastic flange ( gaitor fits over it) and sized it up. old gearstick hole needed to be blanked.

Image

i ran out of 1.2 mm sheet so i went for some quality material!!! :D

fitting nicely.

Image

fitted and trimmed the mat to fit.

Image

next i cut another piece of transit and flushed it into the original gaitor trim! i trimmed it to fit around the mk5 flange.

Image

this covered the old hole in the rubber mat, some may say it looks stupid but i dont think it looks too bad!!

Image

another small thought............where does the lever come through the floor on an auto :?: :?: couple of inches to the right would be lucky if the mk5 gaitor covered the mk2 mat!!!

i put the chair in to try the new lever position, real nice especially with the extension piece that came on the van, gives it the retro touch!!

Image

i wont have the shortened prop back for a couple of days yet so i started to tackle another job i was dreading at the back. the chassis was a bit suss looking behind the shock mounts on both sides and after some hammering and cleaning i found some more work!!

left side.

Image

right side not as bad.

Image

so ive some cuttin and welding to do, your work is never done with theese vans!!! :D
