he's only messin Al  anyway got your alloys on yet Andrew  3 years now is it

no real progress over christmas - ive got the manifold fitted - it needed a few of the holes grinding out before it would fit and i need to get the engine blocked up in the correct position before i can start on the mounts, but as it is it needs lowering on the gearbox but the ifs crossmember is in the way so that needs a bit of modding but it shouldn't pose too much of a problem as theres loads of clearance on the steering rack! i'll post some pics when i do some more :D

engine mounts seem to be a bit of a dilemma alrite, i used the world cup type bushes to mount the izuzu td lump in my mk2 escort van and now that ive got it running im beginning to wonder are they too hard. ive got a nice bit of vibration noise in the cabin at idle and at low revs taking off. its sweet as a nut otherwise but ill have to try and do something to sort the noise at low revs. did you look into any of the vibratecnics stuff, suppoused to be good but not cheap!!

been thinking about the mounts as thats the job i need to do next - the vibratecnics stuff is expensive and if i knew it would be ok i'd buy some but i just dont know :?

i like the idea of the wcxm idea because it cant split and allow the engine to move but buy the nature of its design there isnt much contact spread on the rubber so i guess thats why you'll always get a harsh ride :(

i'm thinking of using matts idea of 2 mounts - the standard one to take the weight of the engine and cushion is and a 2nd one to hold it down and conteract the engine as the power is applied - basically to stop the origanal mount splitting in 2

these are a few sketches to show ith idea - A or C are my favorite :D

would you not be better using the stanard mounts and then fitting an engine damper to take the extra stress away from the mounts

had a good day on this today :D dropped the crossmember so i could get the engine sat in the right position - basically anything in its way now i can mod later :D

this is a pic showing the space i have left at the front - amazing really i can get the old cossy rad in there and space for some slim fans 8)

Image

basically the reason ive got so much space is i have lowered the engine down and back - its still 1/2" off the bulkhead

i can now make the mounts - ive decided to use jag V12 mounts a nice basic design and good enough to take the weight :D if i decide to i will adapt them to deisgn C shown earlier, if i did that i'd need to make the top half bolt on anyway :D

they are similar mounts k-conversions use in there bmw conversion kit which costs £1050
Image

this is a close up of the mount its 90mm dia and 35mm deep :D

Possibly an interesting article for you Luke

Whether or not the same theories apply to your engine I don't know?
