Weller??? Sorry not yet...only just got moving yesterday! Trying to sort a kent meet at the moment but think i might need to confirm a couple of bits with the Muttster very soon...will keep you informed.

One thing that puzzles me though (ok, one in a number) there are 2 screws on the back of the weber. One on the back that controls tickover...turn clockwise til almost stall and back an 1/8th or so...but the other one is a mixture screw on the left back corner. Puk was making a lot of white smoke so i reduced the mix by turning clockwise but it went fully in. Is that right? Puk still runs but shouldnt this stop the fuel feed? Or is it there something else that gets mixed in?

That's the mixture screw mate.
Usually fully un then back out a turn and a half.

In to lean out to entice mixture.

Too lean is no balls , backfire and tops out early.
Too rich is go like stink and stink s too and smoke...

Adjust 1/8 or 1/4 turn at a time!

I can double check the ignition timing for you Tuesday too , my pinto ran best at 6 degrees before tdc at idle !

Remember, idle screws (mixture and tick over) only effect idle. As soon as you come off idle the mixture goes through progression to main jets. This mixture can only be altered by changing jet sizes  :)

Wow, didnt know that. That makes a whole lot of sense. So the idle affects the smoothness of the run then and the timing affects the combustion...interesting...

Good news about the tracking ends though, means that robbiemates is so far so good :) if it happens then this will be the first essex meet me and puk have ever got to!

One other question...how do i stop the nuts on the outlet manifold to the exhaust working loos all the time?

They are M10 x 1.25 locking nuts, NOT nyloc or they will melt, thread lock wont work either but double spring washers will :)
