It's the type 34 square axle by the way :)
If I knew then what I know now, I'd have taken it to the scrapyard...

Glad I didn't though :)

A 4.56 or a 4.11

If the diff is out its really easy to find out... count the number of teeth on each gear and divide them...

It should also be marked on the writing on the outside edge of the flywheel (I don't know the numbers, but it will be something like) 11/50 or 9/37 etc

Ah, of course! I work gear ratios out all the time on bike transmissions... Never thought to just count the teeth

Meh, three and a half weeks back on the road and now cooked the engine

I've managed to source a banana motor to replace the lump in it at the moment. More power, bosch pump and (hopefully) no oil leak, so silver linings and all that. Is there much of a difference between the older 2.5di and the later banana with regards to swapping them over?

very easy swap blank off the egr on the bannana and also may be worth taken the bannanas off and power washing them out as the will be clogged up  you will also need to wire a stop switch upti the fuel pump

As above, but try to get the new engine complete with bottom rad hose, there is a difference between early and late fitments as the water coupling at the back of the engine front plate, behind/under the injection pump, is different between early and late types.

Provided you use the hose that comes with the engine it will fit to your rad.

That bosch pump looks different to normal... Looks like there is a pipe coming out of the top.

You will also want to keep your old fuel filter and housing... unless you want to splice diesel lines
