Sorry for the late reply, the cars at work so no been touched all over the xmas break, will be dismantling majority of the dash tomorrow night, ive been reliably informed that the cluster can be unplugged an plugged back in without any problems, its when a new cluster is introduced the problems arise as it needs to be paired up at jaguar.............but ill find out tommorw :D

Hi there, my preliminary research suggests that disconnecting the cluster will interupt the 'start curcuit', but have a go and test this. If you find this to be the case I can PM you what I believe to be an immobiliser 'by-pass', be interesting to find out if it 'works'

TIM

Will do no problem, ive spoken to a few ecu specialists and they all say the immob cannot be deleted from the ecu via means of laptop etc etc but a by pass would be good as it will probably mean being able to get rid of the clocks (or instrumant pack as they call it)

Was told by a racer that they will still run well enough on the ECU to go round the oval with half the engine sensors snipped. :D

I'll ask if they had the key taped in place on it.

Probably best going with the jag manual box as it'll be stonger and is (as far as im aware) bespoke to the s type/ajv6 (durarec derived) engine so no need for adapter plates etc

Probably right, just been looking at the wiring diagram to see what control modules I can disconnect first and alot of them send a signal to the ecu but the ecu dosn't look for them its just for information if that makes sense (and if ive interpreted it correctly  )

Well got the cluster/instrument pack out, car won't run unless its plugged in thats a sert, out of 3 plugs on the back 1 was left unplugged, the car still runs, if the cluster is completely removed and plugged back in that too is ok so shoukd be usefull when the whole dash is out and the loom exposed :(
gonna do some more light reading of the wiring diagram seen as thats all I got done in an hour in the dark

The Jaguar wiring diagrams suggest that the immobilizer unit is not located in the ECU but elswhere in the vehicle electronic systems.

Your report that the vehicle will not start with the cluster disconnected is what we expected, but does go some way to confirm our theories.

Thanks tim, yeh we've been looking at the immobiliser and its a very simular system to the ford, immobiliser isn't a problem its the fact that the cluster is tied in with the immobiliser, but in the end if it means ive got to tuck the cluster under the dash in a box then so be it as I would like to keep the immobiliser if poss but without the cluster as it woukd be a nice security feature to have

Few pics of tonights work, got a first hand lesson in the "luke wildsmith school of quick dash removal"!!
just the task of slowly working through the wiring and clipping/thinning out what we don't need

Lots done this evening to the jag, all the loom is out of the rear of the car, all the control modules/battery are now sat in the passenger footwell in a big bundle!
And it still drives (although "engine fail safe mode" is displayed on the cluster display ) but by god its still a quick car, especialy now its been on a weight loss diet!
Ive got a code reader on the way to diagnose the fault so will know if its anything or nothing :?
Not got any pics as mi phone had gone dead! :(

No which is strange as it still revs up freely and goes like stink! :?

Got the code reader through the post yesterday and tried it on the works van and works a treat! live data (boost/water temp/vacuum/volts and more) tried it on the jag and wont read it! :x

After a bit of research on forums etc it seems ive bought the wrong version.......DOH! so another is now winging its way to me at a further cost of £5.80

More wiring loom removal tomorrow :(
