Well I forgot to update this... but last weekend it (almost) went back together - with a fair bit of scope creep.

I have fitted

A new balljoint
New knuckle
New Wheel bearing (swapped the flange)
New brake disc
New bit of brake pipe
New flexi hose,
New gearbox oil
New drop link

I put the driveshaft back together and gave it plenty of lube

Of course, whilst you are in there as doing things.... I did the disc and bearing on the other side too.

I haven't put new pads in yet, because they didn't arrive in time, and because of that I didn't bleed the brakes (I can't be bothered to push the pistons back again  ) and in a scope creep moment - I decided to replace both rear calipers (arrived today) as I have a handbrake advisory on one side - and both needed freeing up when I got the van.... and given I have to bleed the brakes anyway....

I have also sourced another 3 matching wheels for it (getting them in a fortnight) - so back on the road soon (but can use a steel in the mean time)

Blimey, you planning on keeping it then? Once they're all tickety boo I find them reliable enough. Asbo still stays on the key. Mot is out on the 2nd, needs a bit of welering for the mot. Be a few hours. I've a years insurance on it plus tax till may. Red going tomorrow for the paint refinishing. Would you say mot asbo or let it go to silicon heaven where all the calculators go? :P

The plan has always been to keep it for a while. It would be fantastic if it lasts until my smileys are tax (and therefore LEZ) exempt.

Anway, pads went in and started bleeding it... and my new jount was peeing fluid. Remade it and all is.good. brakes bled and it drove (notice the tense) really nicely.

After about 10 miles temp shoots up and power drops. Coolant header tank empty. Put 5L in and drive the 2miles more to the supermarket to get more.water...

Another 15L went in and header tank still empty  pulled the dipstick and water flowed out of the top

I initially assumed the oil cooler was at fault - but that not that old and absolutely fine. I have just found out there are core plugs in the rocker chest... and given the temperatures I suspect the coolant (which due to some leaks was basically just water) froze. Fingers crossed.

One of the core plugs was out, and one half out. Botb knocked back in... waiting for some new injector clamp bolts and I will put it back.together and hope for the best.

Well...

It turned over quite well with no injectors in, but wouldn't even move with the injectors in... (obviously with new oil in)

So... I borrowed a mate, and we towed it around the block with no injectors in! It sounded like a tractor on full chat  the theory was that thick cold gloopy oil was blocking things up and a bit more power was needed to get everything shifting

So whacked the injectors back in.... and because the battery wasn't at full charge, dragged it around the blick again to bleed it all up and it wouldn't start even on a tow (note - this was all towing in gear, not bumping).

Got it back and noticed diesel on the union of the high pressure pump... tightened that up and boom it fired straight in to life! Plenty of smoke for the first few minutes but sounded sweet.

Anyway left it running for half an hour or so and dropped the (emulsified) oil, and changed the oil filter... it looled like dirty milk!

I will have to do a couple more very short duration oil changes to get all the emulsification out now

It works!!!

I have done about 200 miles in it today... I also put some tyres (and a replacement wheel) on it on Friday

But also changed the inner and outer track rod ends today - and found that one of the inners has an M20 thread and one M16.... which seems very odd?

A trip to somerset tomorrow :)

It never stops does it??

I haven't even put a tank of fuel through it yet and its dropping down to three...

Im getting underboost and injector 4 restricted codes :(

So despite passing the learns 300 miles ago - it looks like number 4 injector has failed.

I have bought 4 recon injectors now. If it fixes it, great, if not I will be engine swapping!

So...

I put another injector in and it was happy again :)

I decided that as the injectors were a bit old and one had failed I would splash out on a recon set... so after a bit of research I bought some.from WT Diesel and they just would not code in. Tbe used set went straight in.

Their "technical" department appeared to be AI generated responses - so I physically took them back for a refund in person and sat there until I got my money back. I don't think I will buy from them again.

But I also bought something else for it. I might need to make.it slightly less tall to fit

How so? Little flaring job for you? I find that at a certain mileage a lot of little jobs seem to appear at the same time. Maybe it's a good thing as it shows the build quality is consistent but otherwise the universe is just being a f*****r with you at the moment
Stick with it as at some point it'll run out of things too go wrong
