No MinnorMatt its not actually that piece of foam. Its a big sheet of insulation that covers the gear box like a blanket... Most transit owners dont know their there cos theyve been thrown or perhaps it was an optional extra on purchase or maybe just fitted to higher spec transits..... id imagine a lot of minibuses had them tho.

I was sitting in the cab today and noticed a lot of the engine noise was being transferd through the gearbox and then through the floor not just through the bulkhead.

thanks anyway.

I changed the reversing light switch recently and noticed a heavy plastic shroud over the bell housing... shame it wasnt bolted on properly, I might try and fix it down now I know what it is :!:

Gonna try and get all the bumpers and plastics re-fitted this weekend.

Rubbed them all down in the week and then used a plastic primer aerosol can.
Image

Got everything in 2Pack primer then rubbed the bumpers down again to get rid of the standard bumper coarse finish.
Image

Then put everything in 2Pack clear over base to match the rest of the van..... I still haven’t worked out what silver it is.... I think its Ford Moonstone..... It’s a very light silver almost like Mercedes.
Image

On the mechanical side of things I’ve put new oil in the gearbox and the diff. Before I can put new brake fluid in I’ll have to re-connect all the brake hoses and sort out the rear handbrake cable. Should be able to do that and the clutch cable next week which will give me a bit of time left to sort everything else out like door locks and handles for the MOT at the end of the month.

So... my weekend should be busy as long as the rain holds off......

catch u later guys...

I can confirm that they do come with a shroud :D
It's in two halves and have "quick fix" screws that hold the two halves together, that sandwich the G/B
It's still on my old '96 van :D

....so they do exist!.... thanks for that Andyg... i never knew how they were held on the gearbox and if i ever found one on a van how to take it off... i was hoping i wouldnt have to take the gear stick off, ect.. to remove one.

I was thinking of making one out of a rubber sheet or something but i wouldnt want it to touch the exhaust. Defo gonna look into it.

Cheers Andyg.

I tried to get a bit done over the weekend but the weather wasn’t much cop but I have fitted the bumper and plastic vents.

The grill doesn’t want to line up with the bumper nicely.... it must of been the way I welded on the front wings, never mind.

Image

The plastic vents on the side of the van fitted nicely tho.. That’s basically how I envisaged it looking when I was cutting, profiling and welding up the side of the van.

Image

I’ve tried to make the side of the van look as flat and unimposing as possible... I just didn’t want the side of the van to look ugly with all those vents.

Image

Made a boot for the wheel...... what with all the vehicle stealing going on these days this might turn out to be the best thing I’ve built for the camper so far.

Image

Almost the last thing to build before I can MOT it will be the rear gas door. Although I could just trim up the plastic bag and say it’s a cat flap for the moggie..... don’t think that would fly with the MOT inspector tho...

Image

That about it for the moment.... Although I don’t know why im worried about the MOT cos I cant drive it as its ticking over at 3500 rpm... just revving its brains out really..... I put a second hand Lucas CAV pump on it the other day and it was ticking over ok but I let it tick over yesterday to get warm.. tick over was normal at just under 1000 rpm at first and about 10mins later when it had got warm it started to rev its brains out.... horrible..... and now when I start it, it tries to go straight to 3500rpm.... crazy.... anyway... I’ll post the problem in the relevant section later...

I’ve had a few searches on here for the problem, can’t find the specific answer yet....

Anyway, keep up the good work guys.... catch you later....

Hey AlanN... i was gonna ask you if you can come round and put some nice sills on mine like the ones your doing for yours.... id like a set of those.. ...... :D :D ...... your vans gonna be cool...

and yea... my wheels do stink... id like a set of those Tourneo alloys... its just the price :(

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=29672

You've got nice looking new steel wheels on yours... they look nice.... they suit what your doing with your van also..

So i might just stick a coat of silver hammerite on mine :( :(

Only just come across this thread and am pretty speechless! Respect..

Must say I would have been tempted to stick that exhaust pipe on the side. :D

Excellent thread and thanks for the read.
