Hi Transit lovers i'm back in one piece.

The Big day came all to soon but we were ready for it,
Up at the crack of dawn ready to try the camper on its
longest drive so far.
Left at six to join the london traffic which wasan't too
bad at that time of the morning.
The camper started half a turn as per usual & off we
went,
as i had not even tried it round the block after rebuilding
the back axle i was a bit nervous to say the least but took
a small amount of tools in case but am in the AA just in
case.
As i slowed down for a red light i could here a clicking
knoise coming from the rear i thought what the heck is
that but the noise disapeared after a short while and
never returned i'm very pleased to say.
I took it very easy at first till we got to ockham common
on the a3 going south & stopped for a coffee & check the
rear wheel nuts as a precaution.
Unfortunatly the cafe was closed so carried on joining the
now busy three lane carraigeway,
I now had to give her a bit of stick to attain motorway
speed no problem at all the acceleration was terrific it
took off like a rocket,
We cruised down at 2200 revs which is 65 miles an hour
in top gear to junction 8 on the m27 & stopped for fuel,
it took £85 pounds worth of petrol to fill it up,the cashier
commented on the amount it took the wife said its got a
big engine.
onward to the Great Dorset Steam fair we went,
as we got near the heavens opened up & down came the
rain in abundunce the wipers on full speed had trouble
clearing the screen.
As we turned into the steamfair after sitting in the
queue for about twenty or so minutes,
the scene was horrendous tractors & landrovers were
towing campers & caravans through 6 to 8 inches of mud
onto the so called campsite, i sat in the queue for about
two minutes watching the mudfest,
I turned to the wife & said what do you think,
she agreed with me it was not going to happen, i could
imagine broken no plate bent drag link if they put the chain
round both bits without looking properly in their haste.
I backed up & drove slowly through the mud the truck tyres
& limited slip diff got us back to the gate,
i stopped & asked a man who was taking his family into
the fair if he had bought any tickets yet he said no,
i gave him two for that day he was very pleased as they were
worth £17 pounds each.
the rain was getting worse as we drove home the exhaust
became very loud as though it had dropped off i though i
don't need this in the pissing rain,
all of a sudden it went quiet again & kept going loud quiet
i thought i will look at it when the rain stops.
we stopped at our daughters for a cuppa on the way home
as she lives just off the a27,
The rain had stopped by the time we left for london.
The axle performed as sweet as,
i took it up to 3,000 revs in top it was so quiet unlike before.

Aww, love it, esp the bit where you turn away from the mudbath and give your tickets away, thats proper...at least it sounds as if you can travel now just with tinkering, thats all good. I hope you will make the most of the fuel! :)

We arrived home parked up & decided to spend the rest of
our holiday in the camper to try out the rest of it.
I connected the mains supply & the water container to the
camper as if we were on site,
we decided to use the house as the toilet block only for
showering & the other,
I turned the captains chair round & reclined it,
it was so comfortable with it's two arm rests.
The wife decided we would have a chinese take away for tea,
so off she went,
Everything in the camper worked so well but after four days
my back started to play up so spent the rest of our holiday
using the house but only to sleep & shower in,
will rearange cushions the next time we sleep in it.
Back to work & play with camper exhaust,
It turns out the supposidly locking nuts on the exhaust were
missing obviously they did not lock.
so fitted new ones with extra lock nuts to be sure to be sure
to be sure.
Can't wait to drive her again it was a very pleasing experience
after all the years toil & disasters i have been through with her.
There is still some way to go as far as finishing the nitty gritty
goes,
tele cd player reversing camera door panels cruise control.
Will definately catch up with you all soon.
ps Transit Andy. will put pics of Steam Fair of two years ago on
photo bucket sorry no new ones

You must have gone on the Wednesday?

We went on Saturday and didn't have any problems, it had dried out enough (in fact I didn't even get muddy feet) but it was obvious the slightest rain could cause major problems!

Hi Transit Lovers
After coming back from the Dorset steam fair
I could not wait to do the front disc brake
convertion i have planned for about the last
five years.
The reason i wanted to fit jaguar front brakes
& hubs was so i could fit the same revolution
wheels as fitted to the rear axle.
Also the brakes should be far more progressive
as they are fitted to a hundred & fifty miles an
hour car.
Also i can fit much bigger wheels & tyres.
The camper did three hundred & fifty miles
almost non stop & done approxamatly twenty
miles to to £10 pounds worth of petrol.
I thought the way i was driving was not too bad.
Look forward to meeting lots of you very soon
when the discs are finished.

Hi Transit Lovers
progress has been so rapid i can't believe it
everything has come together like a jigsaw
puzzle.
first the jag hubs fitted with Transit wheel
bearings fitted.
next the jag callipers bolting onto the Transit
mountings.
the volvo discs fitted with just enlarging the
centre hole.
the jag brake hoses were made for the job.
The grease seals just a phone call away.
Just waiting for the wheels & tyres
to complete the job.
will post more when job completed & road
tested.

Hi Transit lovers
The wheels & grease seals arrived wednesday but alas no
wheel nuts to bolt them on also i could not order the tyres
until the wheels had arrived.
In the mean time i fitted the new wheel bearings & grease
seal to the nearside hub,
assembled the hub & caliper with new brake pipe & flexible
hose.
I thought i would offer the new wheel up to the hub to see
if my measurement were correct as the wheels looked so
wide, I wondered if i could have made an error & the wheel
might touch the track rod end,
I was very pleased my measurements had worked out
according to plan.
The man arrived to fit the new bridgestone tyres & thought
the wheels were beautiful so took great care to fit the tyres
& balance them.
next comes the offside when finished bleed the brakes &
road test.
might see some of you at Newlands corner next saturday.
about nine onwards.
