The journey of my MK6 (Day van conversion)

Christ knows. Bloody big!

The last wheels I had were 18x8 with an offset of 25.
These are 20x9, so must have a similar offset as they stick out about the same amount.

My arches will cover them just about though.

What arches have u got

Some 3" wide 4x4 arches. Plastic and very flexible.
They fall a little short of the arch, but follow the line very well, so hopefully I can work with them.

Hope so.
Tomorrow's job is to get the inner wings welded up so I can get the outer wings back on, and start fitting up the arches.
Got to get my front wheels and hubs off, to fit the new extended wheel studs that arrived today, as I am not so keen on the fact the front wheel nuts only turn about 5 times with the new wheels. I wanna see exposed thread out the back of the nuts!

Also need to get my arse in gear with the suspension, get this damn thing lowered!

Nice constructive day today.

Longer studs fitted:






De-cambered my rear springs:




Modified my shocks (Yes it clears the CV boot)




And got the van sitting 2" lower




It still needs to settle, and the N/S is jacked up in the photo. Should drop a little more.

Fitted up the other spring, took the van for a little drive around the car park, and ran it back in to do the tracking on it.
All settled down, it looks pretty good.
I am tempted to lower the back end a little bit more, but will wait until all my cabinets and water tanks are fitted for the day van conversion etc. And of course, my side windows, which I am sure will be heavier than the steel sheets etc.
Granted, it's not going to lower it much, but all the extra weight will add up and make a difference. I don't want to end up with it too low!







Also had a mate pop up today, he's an ex Windscreen fitter. He removed my windscreen for me, so I can do the repairs around the A pillars, then have a heated screen fitted next week.

Started fitting up the wideys.

Bye Bye windscreen rust!
It was really rusty at bottom of driver side A pillar. Had to rebuild a part of it.
Few scabs along the top, and around the middle between wipers.

Ground back to shiney, treated, and then cleaned and painted with oxide paint stuff that stinks!
Once dry, tomorrow I will colour code it back in, and then get a nice new screen fitted.

I wasn't keen on the arches, so pulled them back off. I'm collecting some Connect arches this weekend, hopefully they will give enough width to cover the tyres and make the van legal.

Screen is all booked for tomorrow afternoon, so once that's in and fitted, I can start welding up the inner wings, and getting it back together.
