Finished off the rear outer wheel arch on this side tonight. I've still a bit of repairing to do at both the front and rear edge at the sill level but the wheelarch has come out pretty well even if I do say so myself. I bonded the inner and outer arch together with the proper bonding stuff.



I've now started working on the 6 million holes in the floor inside. I'm not looking forward to replacing the last wheel arch - hopefully the inner arch will be in better condition than it was on this side but I'm not holding out much hope.

Windscreen is being fitted tomorrow. One of the most expensive parts I've bought for it so far - £120/130 odd! I'll be glad once it is finally water tight and I can rebuild the cab area and bolt the seats back down again and put the rubber mat in etc.

I've been busy ripping apart years and years of bodging on the rear spring hangers on both sides.

I need to find two new repair panels for this area and I am going to try and get some actual floor salvaged from another van or something to replace the parts I have cut out.

Really starting to loose interest in it to be honest though - it just keeps getting worse and worse with no end in sight. I'd have been better off buying a decent empty van to begin with since that's what I've ended up with now.

It will be worth it when done and you will know that it has been done properly (because you did it!).
Perseverance ... apart from a welder that is the next most important thing if you own an old Transit!

Tim sells the rear section of floor for Mk5 which could probably be adapted easily by a man of you skill.

Don't give up on it now mate, you've done the worst of it.

Re the rear spring hangers, Bryan did ask me about these, but unfortunately only the SWB versions are still available.
They are not sufficiently similar to justify 'adaptation', so fabricating from scratch is the only option left to the repairer.

Cheers for all the positive comments guys... I'm still plundering along with it.

I put a dash of primer on the bonnet and wing today with the good weather.



I also removed all of the gold, black and yellow stickers. They came off quite easily today with the heat.



I've also aquired a rear spring hanger repair panel for the driver's side - just need to get one for the other side now.

Not sure about the LWB hanger but the SWB version is basically "reversible" (you just pick the bit that the shackle fastens too off and weld it back on the other side of the outrigger bit) If the LWB can be "switched" and you can only get the same side as you have then it wouldn't (shouldn't) be much trouble to you (we've all seen what you're capable of)

The panel I bought was a NOS panel someone had lying around and was for sale on Ebay. There are a few places advertising on their web site that they have the repair panels in stock but no one has replied to email yet. Must give them a call on Monday.

I had thought about beefing up the chassis and using the rear heavy duty bolt on spring hangers from a chassis cab in this area and then using 50x50 box section as outriggers to the inner sill on either side:



Has anyone ever done that before? Is there any reason why it couldn't be done?

Does anyone have a spare pair of those bolt on hangers?

The only problem with doing that is that the cast hangers from a chassis cab are "taller" than the chassis on a van
