Keep us updated on your rebuild

I`ve got the bottom end gasket kit, just need to get the top end. Even got an engine stand

Oh, i`m so glad that i sorted the in cab heating system as it was needed

New year i`ll have to get on with the stripping the 2ltr engine and rebuild her, just got to decide on the gearbox :?

what are you thinking for the gearbox?..overdrive is the only thing you can do with ease with these v4 engines

At 1st i was thinking of doing the MT75 conversion but i`ve been offered an O/D box which i`ve asked question on in the Mk1/Mk2 section, but i believe teven the O/D swap isn`t straight forward :?

its not your mk1 gearbox has a mount on top of gearbox and if the od is from a latter van it will have sub frame and bolt to chassis and also prop is shorter

Don`t think anyone has done it on the Mk1 V4, i was going to look in to having an adaptor plate made but it turns out it`s more complicated ie the starter, fly, clutch, prop and cross member. I did start a thread in the mk1/mk2 section.

Managed to win a 4.1:1 Diff off ebay which i`m hoping to rebuild, it was quite dirty when i recieved it so i`ve stripped it part way down to give it a clean and check the teeth and bearings.

The diff bearings do seem to be ok but the inner Pinion bearing there are marks on the race and the outer bearing has quite a bit of play. I need to drift the inner bearing race but i`m not sure how the Outer one is removed.

On the Diff bearing outer race the numbers are 16284-N Japan Koyo Hi-cap
Outer Pinion Bearing HM88542 England Timken

and for the inner pinion i will need to remove the race to get the numbers

Think i`ve found some of the bearings but will need to measure to confirm

Diff

Outer Pinion

Doing a search on ebay and looks like this bearing also fits the Mk6 Transit
eBay listings

Still need to find the numbers for the inner pinion bearing.

Also need thegasket and the pinion seal, i found this site http://www.motomobil.com which i think are based in Germany. They have plenty of stuff listed for the Mk1 and think i`ve found them

Pinion seal?

Started to strip down the Corsair 2000E engine that i bought, suppose to be the same as the GT version :???: I`ve got the bottom end Gasket set and i`ve ordered the top end from this place for £22 delivered :D http://www.gaskets-direct-limited.co.uk ... .asp?c=443

On removing the Thermostat housing guest what? there was no thermostat  so must of had heat issues but think this is down to part blocked waterways in the head to inlet manifold (see pic). The pistons and bores look good at this point.

Need to get a bracket made for the engine stand as one is missing then i can get the block attached then remove sump and decide how far to go. But it all needs a good clean.

Anyone know what this pipe is for?
