Great van and great engine choice mate, these are reliable I love the big jap stuff, should go well with the 1 big turbo! can you put one in my mk5!!!
interesting to hear that the frastest di is an auto too, I'm lucky to have one!!! but still prefer yours!! and these toyota engines arn't that juicy driving normally, I get 9mpg out of my range rover so you'll beat that!!! but I do drive with enthusiasm!!!
at least being auto I can borrow it now!!!! fastest van in 1/4 mile driven by foot! now that might get us a slot on topgear!!!

Forgive my poor search skills but what is that humongous turbo ? ! i saw one earlier today, MASSIVE - is it a JDM ?

seeing as i like to see pics in everyone elses threads here's 1 more in mine



only other progress to report is i ordered 2 previa gear change bushes from toyota dealer on my way home this evening - the gear stick has a bit too much play in it so hopefully new bushes should sort it out

the turbo is an aftermarket one similar size to a garret GT35 4" inlet 3" outlet - basically i wanted a cheap one to see how it drives - i didnt want to shell out for an expensive one to find it needed swapping later on

progress this week - pritty bad i bought a new top hose piece as i modded the last one and found out it was in the way of the turbo - when the new one arrived i now realise it's in the way of the radiator fan so that needs modding too
still working on the towing jig but i've got all the bits together so that should be made for next weekend
and i've decided to have the battery box made - i've done a drawing and i'll get that done this week hopefully

no probs - i'll run the last 1/8th at 79mph it's allready got a limiter (apparantly being a jap import) 112mph i think - never got chance to see if it was still on the donor

(This is done by changing the signal going to the speedo from KPH to MPH by adding a divider of 1.6 (KPH divided by 1.6 = MPH, ie: 100kph / 1.6 = 62mph) this is usually done via a mechanical or electronic device which fools the ecu into thinking its not doing the 112mph limit, thats why Jap import typically have speedos which read 180mph)."

when I had my gto and skyline de restricted it was just a thingy in the back of the speedo so it should be nothing to do with the engine, so you should be already de restricted mate, also I did an impreza and supra myself which were also in the speedo, so you should reach over 112 easy!!

Sounds like a similar thing to the jap import (grey import) bike I had a few years ago, the restriction was in the speedo and seemed to be the same for most of the jap bikes

the donor car did have a mph conversion but i took it out and soldered the wires back together - i will refit it later if i need to but the speedo wont be accurate due to the rear axle ratio and the dash will need loads of work getting all the dials to fit and work right - so plenty of time to sort it I really need to be happy with the vans handling at those sort of speeds before i go near 112mph anyway - with a new engine/ gearbox etc. there will be plenty of running in time

progress this week - basically buying stuff, hoses etc. things i'll need, i havent finished the towing jig but i'm not far off, the radiator is being built i've seen the core and the guy building it has my fans to fit to it but it's been a bit of a nightmare measuring/drawing etc. it'd be a lot easier if he had the van with him but thats not practical at the moment

still cant find a battery box - tried the suggestions but nothing seems to fit where i need so i think i'll have a local sheet metal place make me one

managed a bit this afternoon - got the towing jig all tacked up - the picture is as i was doing it there's a bit more to it - it clamps up to the spring hangers. (the front half is a solomatic frame) the only reason i can't use the standard set up is the front spoiler is too low



in other progress - the 4" 90deg inlet hose for the turbo arrived - i need to get a filter for it now (probably a k&n) but i think i'll wait untill the rad is in to see how much space i've got for it

really trying for north weald now ............. called in on my way back from work this evening, i dropped the tank and got the fuel lines connected in the towing frame is completely done now and also the turbo drain hose i'd ordered arrive but it fouls the manifold so that needs a bit of looking at
I've also managed to scrounge a piece of 3" ally tubing this will be my temporary intercooler to get it running as i'm cutting it fine to get one made in time for weald

Nice solotow, but not even the coppers know if they are legal!! some say yes most say no! but I think they are great, my mate made one once out of some scrap and towed an old 4x4 to cornwall for me! they certainly work, as long as your steering lock don't come on!!

Your van weighs less than 750kgs including the weight

of the A Frame..

mr hook no it's not it's a braked A-frame so 750kg has nothing to do with it it might not be legal after new regulations come in in 2014 but its only 2012 now i dont actually intend to tow the van everywhere like you seem to think the A frame is to get it to the exhaust shop and as a back up if i dont get it MOT'd for weald - after that it will be for recovery purposes only -hopefully never needed

todays progress - joined the toyota accelerator pedal to the transit one so now i have a fully functioning accelerator - using the standard aristo cable

also my radiator is done just got to collect it now

Progress - got my external wastegate today, when it arrived it was much bigger than i thought but luckly it just fitted in the space i'd left for it

Ive also been researching and found i can do away with loads of the water cooling lines - it should make the install much neater - one is the standard water/oil cooler as i plan to fit a front mounted air/oil cooler - so i've had all the manifolds off and pulled the main water feed pipe out - ive got to shorten it and weld it up so it feeds only the cab heater
