mk1 mikes landliner rusty!

Postby Mk1 Mike » Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:09 pm

hi guys heres my other mk1 the landliner my first transit :D ive had this about 2 years now. I bought it from a local welder well he was known to be a welder anyway lol. He said it was solid but while veiwng i could see it was rotten in places but put in a offer anyway and he took it. when i first got it, it was all running and complete but it was a v4 the drive home was eventful lol. When i got home i decided a DI conversion and tidyup was the way to go and then maybe go holidaying a few times in it :D. These are the oldest pics ive got sadly which start withe the v4 removed and the bodywork started.
ImageImage Image yikes  Image bulkheads not bad either

next i looked at the chassis rails and decided it was better to replace than repair them see for yourselves with the pics. Image Image Image Image Image Image as you can see they have been patched allot already so i started by cutting the passenger side chassis rail off just behind the bump stop and as i had a mk3 pickup for scrap i cut the rails out of that :D

To join the chassis rails i folded up some 3mm plate into a rectangular shape and put it into the rail although i didnt take any pics of them :(. The mk3 rail joined up a treat so I then repeated the process on the drivers side here are some pics. Image Image Image i welded each part of the rails to the box then ran another weld over them thats why they look abit rough lol. also i had to mod the lower part of the inner wings for the chassis rails it was rotten there anyway so no big deal lol
