i was just thinking to myself the other day about whether the W123 300D mercedes engine and trans would be a good swap into my van..

great idea.

The W123 300D OM617 is a great dependable engine(500k km and more is normal) but it is and old design engine. Iron head and not cross flow. turbo version has 125PS and you can get 130-140 out of it without expensive mods. I like the newer W124 or W210 engines

I have finally decided where to put the supercharger and made the bracket for it. Now I am working on the intake, I hope the plenum will flow equally much to each cylinder.Image
I was thinking why build a super diesel Transit when a super turbo diesel Transit will be faster, so I bought a turbo :D Maybe it is a little bit small?

Here it is next to the stock Mercedes turbo.

Hi
I am considering putting 2 of these in my boat you say that the pump is electronically controlled does this engine need a ecu or can you bypass this pump as I dont want any electronics.
Thanks Regards Kevin

I have finally started to work on my Transit/mercedes project again:)
The 6 speed box came with the original shifter but I could not put it in the position it was meant to be. The Transit has no tunnel and there is a seat in the center of the car so the shifter had to be moved up and to the side. That meant some modifications with new linkage. Here are a few photos with what I made. It works ok but I need to drive the car to see if it needs further modification so I will wait with finishing touch.

Thank you for your comments :) Progress is slow but it is winter now so I will have more time to work on it.
One question to you Transit experts: are there any powerful Transit diesels out there? The fastest I have seen is this one from Finland http://s236.beta.photobucket.com/user/j ... 20Supervan and here are a few videos of it http://www.youtube.com/user/jarnoperkkio/videos?view=0
