I'm really impressed.
Good looking Mk3 is a true classic and threads like this one make me feeling like "I want a Mk3. Mint and original" :)

Great van :)
regards, Maciej

We were getting 33 with the old n/a engine ... hoping to get back around there. 29mpg with a fully stacked trailer and van is pretty encouraging - especially as I was 'having fun' with all the power and blowing off Escorts at the lights!

New custom design air filter (my own design) with K&N internal and hopefully RSTurbo intercooler in the next week or so and then I can start to refine the fuelling ... Spain & Portugal this summer, so need to get it 'sharp'!

Time to quieten things down a bit

Today's work ...

First strip out all old the tatty Ford soundproofing (this is a 23 year old van):

Next put in a 2mm damping layer of Silent Coat Car Sound Deadening Vibration Proofing

Image

Followed by some 12mm eFoam Fireseal Acoustic foam

Bliss!! Who said diesels were noisy?

How much was the foam, I was given some, but not enough to cover the bulkhead

What he said, this is what I was thinking of doing with mine, but I ain't got a clue what the products are called and where to get them from. And that dynamat stuff is way expensive.

Silent Coat Car Sound Deadening Vibration Proofing 2mm Mat 20 Sheet Volume Pack (basically same as Dynamat and designed to do the same job) was £39.99 for 21 sq ft which was enough to do the engine bay and bonnet. I bought off eBay but lots of the ICE guys do it.
The eFoam Fireseal was £36.96 for 2 x 1 sq metre sheets and we pretty much used all of it in engine bay and bonnet.

Need to order more now for the floor in the cab :?

Seems pretty good stuff.

Hi mate, glad all is going well with the camper.

My Tourneo has a sound deadening tray that bolts under the gearbox, goes from the front cross member rearwards and fixes up to the chassis rails.

I have had to remove this to fit my new exhaust, I will save it for you if it might be of use.

Thanks Tim,

Very kind. Got that already from original, although not yet refitted ... foam needs replacing. How much does it cut noise down do you think?
